Access to Private Gardens - The gardens we were shown were unusual for Venice, given the lack of space, but as gardens go, these were not spectacular or lush. One of our party enjoyed a special English-style garden designed to give a sense of being lost in time and space for relaxation from city life, with interesting features. Another garden was quite extensive with vegetables, fruits, herbs, etc. and was well cared for. Valerio, our guide, gave excellent information on the metaphorical meanings of the arrangement of some of the gardens, the religious symbolism, etc. He was knowledgeable about plants, as well as Venetian history and was a personable guide, with a good command of English and German.

Gardens Disappointing - Guide was a great guy. Very engaging and informative. But the gardens weren’t great. Most of them were mainly veg gardens.
