Additional Information

Don’t miss out becoming an insider in Venice. On this essential guided tour, you will be intrigued by the fascinating history of La Serenissima and discover what it is like to live in this unique city. The greatness of Venice has always been reflected in the richness of St. Mark’s Basilica, the perfect synthesis of Venetian art and a unique blend of Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic elements. Five Oriental-looking domes crown the shadowy, mysterious interior gleaming with golden mosaics, coloured marbles, precious stones and pearls, and guarded by the four gilded bronze horses that stand proudly atop the central entrance. The glittering mosaics of the interior tell the story of St. Mark and episodes from the Bible.

Excellent guide and tour - I’m sorry that I have forgotten our guide’s name. She had white hair, Hokas, and in great shape! She was wonderful! The tour was excellent.

Mosaics are amazing! - An amazing church, the mosaics are incredible! And the view of the square from the outside balcony is incredible. And the horse statues….haven’t seen anything like them in a church before. The basilica appears rather gaudy on the outside but seeing inside is definitely worth it.

Great tour of the Basilica - Easy to find where to pick the tickets up. And meet the guide who was very knowledgeable about the tour. And took time to answer any questions

Skip the line guided tour of basilica - There were four of us. First time to use trip advisor for a tour and was pleased. Price was reasonable compared to others. If you do not get skip the line, forget it. The lines were incredible and Venice is packed with tourists in June. Understand it gets worse in July and august. We enjoyed our tour although the basilica was also packed and difficult to walk around with so many people. Beautiful basilica, I cannot imagine going to Venice and not going inside the basilica.

Disappointing visit - Cutting lines is very efficient. On the other hand, the audiophone that costs you 12 euros per person (at least since we paid 20 euros with the ticket without Guide). The provided QR code returns you to an app that you are unable to download. It is therefore of no use at all. That is 20€ per person, without comment, for the visit of the basilica and without the gold treasure! Disappointed

Good information but was fast and difficult to absorb all the information. - Going up to the dome was a great experience. Having the tour guide explain the facts made the tour worthwhile.

Could be better - Where you redeem the vouchers should be mentioned in the booking confirmation. It’s not well highlighted. There is no warning in the confirmation re dress code. I have booked a tour of the Vatican museums and it advises re dress code. I had to buy 2 scarves to cover my shoulders and knees 😱. I checked and re checked the voucher and it wasn’t stated. Guide was difficult to understand in English.

Disappointing value - Our guide was 20 mins late. No apologies, no introductions. Talked very little. As a guide never said things like, ok, we are moving now. People were still looking all around and she would start walking through a very busy square. She didn’t ask who had tickets to the doges palace and who didn’t so we ended up following her (no explanation where we were going) and going through security to learn we were headed somewhere we hadnt purchased tickets for. She didn’t do a lot of talking other than in st marks and it’s not as much as I would have liked. We heard a lot of background noise from her headset, including her phone that kept going off. Very very disappointing to pay so much money for so little in return. We were a part of 4 (family) but kids were older than teens.

UNRELIABLE- Don't count on reservations - Reserved the tour through St. Mark's partner Headout two months in advance. I got a confirmation email stating my tour was booked and my credit card was charged. Showed up for tour only to find out St. Mark's was closed that day. Headout never notified me to potentially change my date and I had to leave Venice without seeing St Mark's. So take your chances booking this tour. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. You'll find out when you get there.
