Brilliant workshop and host - Nicollo was brilliant and very informative, small and personal shop with good aircon. The mask making was a great experience, not too difficult and they turned out absolutely incredible, wide variety of choices. A generous discount on any of the products in the shop after the workshop was included and we were offered the opportunity to try on and take photos with any of the masks and products in the shop. Could not recommend more.

Fond memories will be made - Hearing history and interacting with customers that were visiting the shop made the morning so memorable. We started our first morning at the shop which was easy to find. The experience of painting masks added so much to our visit to Venice. While we worked on our masks, my husband ordered some Prosecco from the restaurant right outside the door. We also purchased a few beautiful masks and all were shipped to our home in USA (reasonable cost) and arrived home before we did ~ This is a must do on your visit.

A must-do! - This activity is simply wonderful. Not only is Giorgio welcoming and so passionate about his craft, he is great with the kids and helping them with their creation. You choose one mask from a nice range of options and paint with 3-4 colours. Two coats and then Giorgio decorates the masks with finishing touches. The activity itself takes a little more than an hour. While you wait around 20 minutes for the masks to dry, is a lovely church to visit in the same courtyard, a gelateria around the corner and even a spot for a drink. I highly recommend this activity, even if you are not an artist at heart. It allows you a moment to participate in a Venetian craft that has been around for centuries and you get to take your memory with you back home. Grazie Giorgio for this wonderful experience!

Unique souvenir make-your-own-mask experience in Venice - We each picked a mask shape and then three colors before starting to paint. The shop is tiny with only five seats in the shop. The walls are covered in masks made by Giorgio, whose family has been making masks for centuries. He put the finishing touches on our masks as he told us about the history of masks in Venice. We all really ended up loving this class (including my husband) and had a unique souvenir to bring home with us. Giorgio was also very patient with my six year old son and would highly recommend this activity for families. While there, we also purchased a few masks from the shop to take back with us :)

Our kids said it was their best experience in Venice - Our kids, nieces, and nephew had a special and memorable experience creating their unique Venetian masks under the guidance of the masterful Giorgio. They had a blast and were so proud to take home their beautiful masks as a keepsake to remember this wonderful experience. I Highly recommended this experience.

Masks were fun but hard to find entrance - It was fun and we enjoyed making our masks. The door was very hard to find and everyone told us to keep walking over the bridge. It was hot.

Not worth the money - This mask making "class" was very disappointing. We met at the front of the Prisoner's Palace and were led up a stone stairway several floors up. Beware of the low stone archways in the stairway...my 6'2" partner hit his head pretty hard on one of them going upstairs. It was just the two of us in this group and we were led to a very warm studio space with a long table set up with jars of water and brushes. We could choose from two slightly different paper mache mask forms that were waiting for us, packaged in the plastic bag they came in. The young woman who led the "class" showed us 4 or 5 masks that had already been painted with similar styles of abstract designs, then she put a few colors of paint on a paper plate and we painted a base layer of color on our masks. There were some pencils out if we wanted to sketch out our designs first. There were a few well used tubes of paints for line work and several colors of glitter that she showed us how to apply by sprinkling over brushed on glue. There was also some spray paint that she applied to my mask for me, but she didn't really get it where I wanted it. She was certainly not the master mask maker that the description implied. She was a water color artist in her 20's who seemed to be doing this for extra income. We learned nothing about the history of Venetian masks and instruction was minimal. We would have had to leave our masks there to let them dry, but we really didn't want to have to go back to the hot studio, so we took them with us wet. I will use my own supplies when I get home to add to my mask. I do not recommend this activity.
