Antonio Vivaldi served as a violin teacher starting in 1703, later assuming the roles of a concert master and mentor of the Daughters of the Chorus. These young orphan girls, who performed hidden from the public to uphold their anonymity, were infants abandoned in the so-called ‘scafetta’, where newborn orphans were often left by their unknown mothers at the Ospedale della Pieta’.
Vivaldi spent four decades of his life in this church, creating his magnificent pieces, among them the collection of 12 violin concertos known as Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Invenzione. This collection included his magnum opus, Le Quattro Stagioni.
