Cheese making with a 4th generation cheese master - If you are in Vico Equense you have to go here. Antonio and Angela are the most welcoming people we met on our trip. Seeing and being a part of the cheese making is only part of the experience. You truly feel like family, like you’re sharing a table with them. They provide samples of different cheeses and wine after the class as well. I bought a few cheeses to bring home too! This is a family run business in every sense of the word-the milk is delivered twice daily from an uncle!

MUST do! - My husband and I searched for a mozzarella making class to take near Sorrento and after coming across Caseificio Starace’s page, we knew we found the perfect class. Antonio, Angela and their family could not have been more welcoming as we were two honeymooners who booked the class last minute. My husband is an aspiring mozzarella maker looking for tips and to enhance his knowledge to continue our family’s lost tradition of mozzarella making. If I could give a higher rating, I would as we learned everything we needed and more to continue practicing at home. Angela speaks great English and was able to answer all of our questions. Although Antonio is certainly a master who was born into the craft, Angela serves as the backbone of the family and business. We took many photos, shared in the stretching and forming of the cheese, saw the many other forms of cheese made, visited the store and ended with a cheese tasting. The dynamic duo surprised us with a sweet toast with Prosecco to our honeymoon as a lovely surprise and we wound up hanging around later as we waited for our transportation. We continue to stay in touch with Antonio as him and Angela have become our friends through this process. We hope to return the favor one day and welcome them to our home in America.
Some helpful tips if you do not have a car— take the train from Sorrento one stop over to Vivo Equense. From there, buy a ticket for the bus to the top of the mountain where you will find the store and class. Be sure to check the last time for the bus returning down the mountain as we missed the last bus into town. A&A graciously offered to drive us down to the train, but we decided to make the 40 minute hike down. If you have a car, you will not have this issue. Regardless of the logistics of transportation, I still greatly recommend this class as it was a highlight of our honeymoon and Italian experience.

A Honeymoon Highlight: Cheese-Making and Warm Hospitality at Caseificio Starace - We wanted to make cheese during our honeymoon in Italy, and our hotel connected us with Caseificio Starace for an unforgettable experience!
Antonio, a fourth-generation cheese maker, and his wife Angela welcomed us warmly into their family’s world of cheese-making, where they produce small batches for local restaurants and their own charming cheese shop.
The hands-on lesson was both informative and memorable. Antonio and Angela walked us through the process of making different types of cheese and shared the unique forms they use for seasonal celebrations.
Afterward, they treated us to a beautiful spread in their backyard garden, where we tasted an array of their cheeses alongside salami from their family farm. We finished off the night by picking some tangerines from a tree in the garden. The experience was complemented by a delicious bottle of wine, making for a perfect evening.
Antonio and Angela are a truly lovely couple—kind, patient, and incredibly hospitable. This was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our two-week honeymoon. Grazie mille for such a special day!
