Fantastic steam train dining experience - We had a wonderful journey aboard the train. All the staff were attentive and enthusiastic about the railway. We were welcomed on a red carpet and given star treatment throughout. We saw a herd of elephant trackside en route to the Bridge where the train stopped for a chance to climb up into the engine and toot the whistle. Be ready to barter with the local villagers on the bridge who are selling their wares then back on board for a fine dining experience. A wonderful trip.

A Unique Dinner - This was an excellent step back in the past as we travelled from Zimbabwe to Zambia and back for dinner and a view of Victoria Falls.

Truly wonderful experience - A truly amazing experience, the wine (red) was very tasty and plentiful. I enjoyed all the courses of food we were given. Lovely scenery on the bridge of Victoria Falls and surrounding area. I thought the gift sellers were a bit pushy, but we were warned by the train manager that it would be so we were expecting it. All in all a great experience and would recommend it to anybody staying in the area.

A GRAND EVENING - You will be at the train for 1630, offered a wine or other beverages upon boarding. People were initially seated in one carriage. Drinks were topped up. After the train started to move many moved to an old bar car or its outdoor part for unobstructed views. At least three rounds of canapes were offered as the train headed toward the international bridge where it parked. You could disembark for shots of Victoria Falls or the rapids down river. There are lots of hawkers about. The train then moved to a siding for the meal to allow freight traffic to pass. Dinner was served in two dining cars. Three small but tasty rounds of appetizers followed. Staff were quite willing to keep adding to your wine glass. The beef was very good with a fortunately light dessert. It was nice to see such carriages restored. Transfers are included in the roughly $200 US per person price. Not everyone made an effort to dress up a bit but it added to the occasion to do so.

Superior - I have experience many trains and as many dinners on trains. This one is the most spectacular of my travels. A pickup at my Protea Hotel and greeted by fabulous South African red and white wines. I met people from Canada, Rwanda, England, Australia all visiting Zambia. A stop at the Victoria Falls to see the sunset from the bridge. Back on the train for a delicious 5 course dinner. The conversations and the staff were just adding to the ambiance of the beautiful event. You need to book this through your hotel on Wednesday or Saturday night. Do It!

Brilliant - but no steam train! - Absolutely superb evening, great food, superb experience, and great staff. BUT - once we were on the train and setting off we were told that it wasn't a steam train tonight, but a deisel one, because if engine problems. When something that is a major component of an activity, and a major reason for booking it, is not included, the very least they could do would be to offer some sort of refund, particularly bearing in mind how expensive the activity is. However, still worth doing, and would definitely have got a 5 star review if the steam train was used.

An interesting experience on a steam train - Whilst not quite the Orient express, this is a short ride in vintage train carriages from the early 20th century pulled by a steam train. It is an interesting reconstruction of train travel from a bygone era. It also contains the bonus of a brief trip into Zambia. A 7 course meal is served as the train moves slowly over a short section of track. The excursion seemed a bit long-winded and is rather expensive, but is a unique experience in this part of Africa.

Livingstone Express Dinner Train - A well presented evening on train carriages that are over 70 years old. Service staff are excellent, food is average/good and mostly served as cold dishes (tomato consommé, cold pureed butternut with parmesean crisp etc) with a warm main meal. The train does a lot of stop starts and the journey to the bridge isnt scenic. What one needs to be aware of is the stop on the bridge overlooking the falls, it is heavily congested with curio sellers. So much so that one can't comfortably get off and enjoy the experience without being hassled. The poverty line is real and one is reminded of the suffering of may people, contrasted by the luxury experience you're on and wanting to enjoy.

Incompetent waiters - I rated this experience one star. I read and was also told to dress formally. The train stopped on the bridge for guests to leave for photo opportunities. Don’t wear high heals. The meals were nothing to rave about. But yes your not paying for a gourmet meal. Your paying for an experience. The staff are friendly but by no means experienced. Not only did I not enjoy the meal I was subjected by clumsy waiters. One glass of red wine over my dress. Then later dessert knocked over me. Pure inexperienced staff. What made maters worse. The train was not even moving. The air conditioning was broken. If you’re wearing shorts and T-shirt. That’s fine. Don’t go dressed up and expect fine dining because you will definitely be disappointed.
