- Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna - Built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the splendid imperial collections, it is now one of the world’s most important museums. Artefacts from ancient Egypt to classical antiquity to the late 18th century document the patronage and connoisseurship of the art-loving members of the House of Habsburg. In the Picture Gallery you can see celebrated master-pieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Raphael, Vermeer, Velázquez, Titian and Durer, as well as the world’s largest collection of works by Bruegel. At the Kunstkammer Vienna goldsmith’s works such as the famous saliera by Benvenuto Cellini, sculptural masterpieces, filigree works in ivory, valuable timepieces and complex automata by the best and most famous artists of the day – each item unique in the world – provide an unrivalled cross-section through the history of art. Equally enjoyable for every art-lover is the magnificent building itself with its imposing staircase featuring a series of paintings on which Gustav Klimt collaborated.

Fangirl - really great - Rembrandt with leadership - very humorous, smart and insanely well explained. 10/5 stars, apart from incredibly great paintings, the tour is highly recommended. Am from Vienna , is thus a local tip.

A great Museum! - I Highly recommend if you are in Vienna not to miss a visit to this museum. A great floor plan and so well curated. We especially enjoyed the Ancient wing of the museum, and the Renaissance rooms. We were impressed by offerings and the amount of high quality works on display. Great care and thought was taken into consideration with how the works would be displayed and it shows! We were thoroughly impressed.

Great art, delicious breakfast - Amazing art!! There on a very rainy day.
Breakfast is delicious in the beautiful cafe. Only served at the weekends but worth it ( both food and surroundings great).

Great museum - This is a great museum. Lots to see and explore. The building itself is stunning. My only complaint is the cafes blatant disregard for allergen identification. I can’t eat nuts and was very careful to read the allergens listed for all of the cakes in their display case. I ordered a cake that didn’t list nuts as an ingredient, and when I took a bite, the cake was loaded with nuts. If they’re going to take the time to make allergen tags for their desserts, they could at least be accurate. At least 2 of the allergen tags were incomplete.

A beautiful museum with lots to see! - This museum if huge and gorgeous! Lots of interesting items from the Austrian royalty period and a nice collection of paintings. The cafe in the center is elegant and has a nice selection of food and drink. Be ready to wait for a table as it's pretty busy.

Probably the most beautiful building that I have ever visited - One of the most beautiful buildings that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Then having the opportunity to enjoy works of art as well was a welcome bonus. The actual building is jaw-dropping in it's beauty and you'll probably take as many photo's of the interior as you will the magnificent paintings.
Our audio guide mentioned that there was no financial limit when they built this structure and THAT is what it looks like!

Picture Gallery still had a lot of good works from older masters - There are some fine artworks from older masters, including a Vermeer painting that I have wanted to see. Picutre Gallery took about 2h, good division of the rooms and easy to follow the folder.

You don't REALLY skip the line! - We love the museum, but you do not get to skip the line. Instead of standing in the individual ticket line with dozens of people, you have to stand in the much shorter voucher line to the right of the entrance to turn your Viator voucher into real tickets. This should have been made clear. It would have saved us time.

Buy tickets on the museum website to save time and hassle. - I only purchased the tickets on Viator because of a credit card offer. It's not worth the hassle compared to purchasing on the official website of the museum. As many other reviews say, the voucher needs to be redeemed at a ticket kiosk. There's a special kiosk for group, voucher and service, which did have a shorter wait than the individual customer kiosk. However, I experienced a very blunt and rude tour group leader using the most unfriendly way to communicate to everyone waiting that the fact that she has priority as she's getting tickets for a group. It kind of ruined the experience due to the mild conflict. I had no problem that group had priority over voucher and service customers, but it should be sign posted better by the museum, or there should be another kiosk open specially for the groups.
