Visiting places:
Horror Highway: On May 1, 1972, a day remembered not for International Labor Day but for the tragic events on Vietnam Highway 1, known as Horror Highway. Thousands of civilians, including the elderly, women, children, and numerous soldiers, were killed by artillery and infantry weapons during hours of relentless shooting.
Long Hung Church: One of the few remaining buildings in Quang Tri town from the “Fire Summer” or Eastern Offensive in 1972. It is recognized as a National Relic in Quang Tri town, Vietnam – BA5453.
Quang Tri Ancient Citadel: This site stands as a witness to the fierce battles during the anti-American resistance war in 1972.
- Vinh Moc Tunnel - After a break, our guide and car will take you to more war sites, including:
Hien Luong Bridge – Ben Hai River: The Geneva Agreements on Vietnam, signed in 1954, divided Vietnam into North and South at the 17th Parallel, where the Ben Hai River flows through Quang Tri Province. Hien Luong Bridge, also known as the Peace Bridge, was built by the French in 1950 across the Ben Hai River. Although it is only 178 meters long, it took 21 years for the Vietnamese people from the North and South to reunite.
Vinh Moc Tunnels and Tunnels Museum: The highlight of the DMZ Tour, the Vinh Moc tunnel complex, located deep within the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, provided shelter to the people of Vinh Linh county from intense bombing. The tunnels successfully saved villagers’ lives and provided the necessary conditions for them to resist the American forces.
- Quang Tri Citadel - During the 81-day battle, the citadel was nearly destroyed by thousands of tons of bombs dropped by the US army. Today, it stands as a monument to the immortal victories of the Vietnamese army and people, serving to educate the youth about the nation’s revolutionary tradition and patriotism.
Dakrong Bridge: Once considered the starting point of the Ho Chi Minh Trail network, this bridge was fiercely contested during the Vietnam War and fell multiple times. Now, it stands as a grand suspension bridge, symbolizing resilience with a proud message: “You can’t knock down my bridge anymore.”
Along the way, tourists will also have the opportunity to visit a Paco minority village.
Ta Con Airport: Now the Khe Sanh Combat Base Museum, this site features a collection of captured U.S. tanks and aircraft destroyed during the Battle of Khe Sanh. According to the museum’s official accounts, 197 U.S. planes were shot down or captured during the 170-day battle.
