• Port of Leixoes - Located in the picturesque tourist city of Porto, Leixões has expanded its cruise operations. Since the opening of the new Cruise Quay in April 2011, the Port of Leixões now has two berths for cruise ships and can accommodate larger vessels (up to 300m). In 2012, passenger numbers rose by 81% and ship visits by 25%, with 75,613 passengers visiting Porto. In 2013, the Port of Leixões anticipates around 70 cruise calls, bringing over 66,000 passengers and 30,000 crew members to the region.
• Castle of the Cheese - Fort São Francisco Xavier (Cheese Castle)

Built in the 17th century to defend the coast from North African pirates, this fort is situated on a cheese-shaped rocky hill, hence the name Castelo do Queijo (Cheese Castle).

• She Changes (The Anemone) - She Changes, locally known as anémona (the anemone), is a sculpture by artist Janet Echelman for the cities of Porto and Matosinhos in Northern Portugal. It is a stunning piece that resembles a massive fishnet moving with the wind, creating a fluid art form.

• Fortress Sao Joao Baptista - Constructed at the end of the 16th century to protect the coast and the Douro River entrance, this fortress features modern strongholds added in the 17th century and an 18th-century access gate. It is a fine example of military architecture.

• Ponte da Arrabida - The Arrábida Bridge, designed by Edgar Cardoso, once held the record for the longest reinforced concrete bridge span in the world at 270 meters. Inaugurated in 1963, it stands 70 meters above the water. Bronze sculptures atop the four main pillars enhance its innovative and modernist design.

• Alfandega Porto Congress Centre - This neoclassical building, designed by engineer Jean F. G. Colson in the 19th century, features two facades—one facing the Douro River and the other the city. The structure uses iron along with stone, brick, and wood, depending on the space’s function. In 1987, it was chosen to house the future Museum of Transport and Communications.

• Museu do Carro Electrico - Opened in 1992, the Museu do Carro Eléctrico (Tram Museum) showcases a collection of trams and auxiliary vehicles that once operated in Porto, marking the history of light urban rail transport in the city. The museum, located in the old Massarelos power station, also features an example of the horse-drawn American trolley buses introduced in Porto in 1872 and some original equipment used in the power station.

• Ponte de Dom Luis I - Designed by engineer Teófilo Seyrig, a disciple of Eiffel, this bridge was inaugurated in 1886 and features two overlapping iron decks. It spans 395 meters in length and 8 meters in width, with an arch still considered the world’s largest in forged iron. The upper deck is now used by the Porto Metro, connecting Porto’s Cathedral area to the Garden of Morro and República Avenue in Vila Nova de Gaia.

• Ponte D. Maria Pia - Gustavo Eiffel’s first masterpiece, created with Theóphile Seyrig, was inaugurated in 1877 and served for 114 years. It features a double-hinged arch supporting a single-track railway deck on truss pillars. Classified as a national monument in 1982, it gained international recognition in 1999 for its historical significance in civil engineering.

• Ponte de Sao Joao - This railway bridge, designed by Edgar Cardoso, connects Porto’s Campanhã station to southern destinations, with General Torres in Vila Nova de Gaia as the first stop. Its central span of 250 meters set a world record for portico bridges. The bridge’s three spans are supported by two large piers in the riverbed near each bank. It was inaugurated on June 24, 1991, São João’s day.

• Ponte Infante Dom Henrique - Inaugurated on March 30, 2003, and designed by engineer Adão da Fonseca, this bridge replaced the upper deck lane of the D. Luís I Bridge, now used by Metro line D. The bridge spans 371 meters in length and 20 meters in width, featuring a Maillart-type arch with a span-rise ratio of 11.2 and a 280-meter arch span, a world record. It is considered one of the most elegant bridges of its type by experts.

• Liberdade Square - This broad avenue, lined with buildings from the 1920s and 1940s, is bordered on the south by the 19th-century Cardosas building and on the north by the City Hall. In the center of Praça da Liberdade (Liberty Square) stands the statue of King D. Pedro IV, inaugurated in 1866.

• Igreja de Sao Francisco - Porto’s most significant Gothic temple, construction began in the 14th century. It is renowned for its Baroque interior, richly gilded in the 17th and 18th centuries. Count Raczinsky described it as the ‘Church of Gold’ due to its opulent gilded woodwork, which he claimed surpassed anything he had seen in Portugal or the world. Notable features include the Tree of Jesse and the catacombs. It has been a National Monument since 1910 and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1996.
