Additional Information

Cockburn’s expansive maturation warehouse, residing in the historical core of Vila Nova de Gaia, is the largest, hosting 6,518 Port Barrels ageing under its colossal ceiling. It boasts one of the rare facilities with its team of barrel-makers.

Cockburn’s Ports undergo meticulous ageing in oak vessels and ferries under the supervision of expert tasters and wine-makers until they attain perfect ripeness.

The grand scale of Cockburn’s warehouse affords ample room to store bountiful amounts of the Special Reserve ageing process, which cultivates its distinctive style and flawless equilibrium, gained from extended wood ageing than any other Reserve Port.

Great port lodge tour - Very informative guide who explained and answered the questions about the Port industry and history. Found the warehouse very interesting and enjoyed the tasting session and overall good value for money.

highly recommended, and informative. - Although our tour was arranged by a friend back home who is a wine importer, I think it was the basic tour, although the wines and ports we tasted after wards I believe were customized for us. The tour was top notch, very informative, very good tour guide, just long enough, fascinating (they have unopened bottles of port from 1861 and ports still aging in vats since the 1930's.) Afterwards we went to their nice simple garden and had some snacks and drinks. Highly recommended.

Great and thank you - The visit is great! The place is large and magnificent. The guide in French is very kind, he explains well and takes his time. Ports can be ordered for shipping. A beautiful terrace under the vines to enjoy a Pastéis or port. I recommend the port ginger cocktail!!! Thanks to the French guide!!!!

Great tour, amazing port! - Our Tauck tour took us here for a port making tour and tasting. I’m not a port fan, so I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious all their offerings were. Igor was our tour guide. He was informative and funny! Definitely recommend.

Go on this one - The tour was very good and the guide was very informative. It was not a problem to ask questions and he engaged with all the tour party. Well worth the money and would recommend this over others that we have been on. Most of all was the Port and chocolates, what a way to end the tour. So much so that we had to order another couple of ports!

Fantastic Tour that was very intereting and so well guided - Fantastic tour on which we learnt so much about Port - who knew! Our tour guide was outstanding, the party size was just right and the three glasses of port at the end were the icing on the cake. We had no idea that the cellars were this big or that the estates were so vast. Such an interesting experience and one not to be missed Go you wont be disappointed

Very interesting and informative tour - Chose the tour of Cockburns day before we went after searching through several online. We took the English tour led by Francisco. He was amazing. Very knowledgeable, interesting and fun. We had an excellent tasting session at the end of the tour trying 3 ports. A special reserve, a 20 year Tawny and a Vintage 2016. Our personal favourite was the 20 year Tawny. We also purchased a 30 year Tawny from the bar to try too. Well worth it!

Disappointing Experience - Somewhat disappointed. The settting is nothing special. What annoyed us the most was after paying for premium tastings and asking about a cheese board we were advised one cheese board was not enough for two people. WRONG! One board is 100% shareable between two people. It’s big ugly chicks of cheese that wasn’t explained to us so we had no idea what cheese we were eating. The port was nice but generally a lack of attention and overall experience was poor.
