- Douro River - This river begins in the Serra de Urbión mountains, located in the Spanish province of Soria, at an elevation of 2,160 meters, and flows through northern Portugal until it reaches its mouth near the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
- Ponte da Arrabida - When it was built in 1963, this bridge boasted the largest reinforced concrete arch of any bridge worldwide. The Arrábida Bridge was the second bridge constructed for road traffic between Porto and V. N. Gaia and is one of the six existing bridges in Porto. These bridges, in order of construction, are the Ponte de D. Maria Pia, the Ponte Luiz I, the Arrábida Bridge, the São João Bridge, the Freixo Bridge, and the Infante Bridge.
- Rua do Cabedelo - Afurada is situated on the left bank of the Douro River, near Foz. It gained recognition for its vibrant fishing industry, particularly for sardine fishing, with the introduction of the first trawlers, as well as shad and lamprey fishing, becoming the primary fishing hub in Vila Nova de Gaia.
- Alfandega Porto Congress Centre - Located in the Alfândega Nova building in Porto’s historic center, on the Douro River’s banks, this venue, restored by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Eduardo Souto Moura, is ideal for hosting events such as congresses, dinners, exhibitions, and shows.
- Cais da Ribeira - Ribeira is one of Porto’s oldest and most iconic areas, located in the São Nicolau parish by the Douro River. It is part of Porto’s Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a popular tourist destination with numerous bars and restaurants.
- Ponte de Dom Luis I - The D. LuÃs I Bridge, a metal structure with two decks, was constructed between 1881 and 1886, linking Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro River. It replaced an old suspension bridge and was designed by Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, who previously collaborated with Gustave Eiffel on the D. Maria Pia Bridge. The bridge was inaugurated in 1886 (upper deck) and 1888 (lower deck) and has been a Property of Public Interest since 1982 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
- Cais De Gaia - Cais de Gaia is a tourist hotspot with terraces, restaurants, and bars, located on the Douro River’s left bank in Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite Porto’s historic area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar - Situated across the Douro River from Porto, this monastery overlooks the LuÃs I Bridge and Porto’s Historic Center. Originally belonging to the Order of Saint Augustine, its construction began in 1538 and evolved over centuries, significantly altering its initial design. It is now a religious, cultural, and military site, renowned for its classical European architecture, with a unique circular church and cloister. The Church and Cloister were declared a National Monument in 1910, and other parts were classified as a property of public interest in 1935. In 1996, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Porto’s Historic Center and the D. LuÃs I Bridge.
- Ponte Infante Dom Henrique - Also known as Ponte do Infante, this road bridge connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto over the Douro River. Named after Infante D. Henrique, born in Porto, it is the newest bridge linking Porto and Gaia.
- Ponte D. Maria Pia - Named after Queen D. Maria Pia de Saboia, wife of King D. LuÃs I, this railway bridge carried the Northern Line over the Douro River between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Inaugurated on November 4, 1877, and closed on June 24, 1991, it was replaced by the Ponte de São João. It is considered one of engineer Gustave Eiffel’s greatest masterpieces, alongside the Garabit Viaduct. At its inauguration, it had the largest iron arch in the world and has been a National Monument since 1982.
- Magic Spa Pestana Palácio do Freixo - Located in Campanhã, Porto, the Freixo Palace is a prime example of civil baroque architecture in Portugal and has been a National Monument since 1910. The Ponte do Freixo is a road bridge connecting Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto over the Douro River and is the furthest upstream of the bridges linking Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia.
- Praia Fluvial Areinho - Offering views of eastern Porto and the Ponte do Freixo, Praia Fluvial do Areinho is perfect for a delightful day at the beach.
- Gondomar - Offers scenic views of the city.
- Promenade Foz do Douro - This promenade along the Douro River is where local fishermen’s boats are moored.
- Reserva Natural Estuario do Douro - The Douro Estuary Local Natural Reserve, established on July 10, 2018, is located in São Pedro da Afurada, Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. Spanning 62 hectares, it serves as a resting, feeding, and sheltering area for numerous migratory bird species.
