A "Marbleous" Tour! - This was an amazing trip into the process and history of marble making in Portugal. Our guide was fantastic, although I am embarrassed to say I forget her name! She was very knowledgeable and we were fortunate to have her full attention as we were the only ones on the tour that morning. She took us through the mine site itself and the workshops where they cut and polished the recently cut stone. The mine has been in existence for two thousand years and you can see where they started mining that long ago.

Top excursion - Very motivated guide who paid a lot of attention to our questions. The tour was supposed to last 2 hours, but with us it was 3 hours. Highly recommended to do this route. From explanation of origin to the quarry to processing the marble. There wasn't a single moment where it was boring.

Great experience and knowledge! - The history of the emergence and extraction of marble is very interesting, the visit to the mine was the highlight! If you are tired of seeing churches, castles and museums and are curious to learn more, I recommend this tour. Guia Joaquina was very attentive and answered all the group's doubts and curiosities.

This was a most interesting tour and educational program. - This was not your usual tourist stop; we learned so much about marble in a 3 hour hands on experience with a tour to several quarries. We combined this tour with an earlier stop at Corticarte about 40 minutes drive from Évora where we were staying. We learned about cork and marble and enjoyed shopping at the cork factory store.

Well worth it! - Joao was a wonderful tour guide. He started with a brief history of the marble industry and the geology of the area---very interesting. Then we visited three increasingly deep giant marble quarries where we could see men and machines digging the marble far below. Incredible! Then we went to watch them cut the slabs into tiles of various sizes. We learned so much about marble production, but it was Joao's enthusiasm and deep knowledge and love of his subject that made the tour special.

Enjoyed it very much - Really enjoyed the Marble Tour on May 15. Joaquina is an enthusiastic guide who told and showed us a lot. About the area's history, but also the extraction and processing of marble. For us places you wouldn't otherwise go.
