Highlights
  • Virpazar - Venture on a peaceful and stunning journey into the beauty of Lake Skadar by starting your sightseeing cruise in the delightful fishing village of Virpazar. Depart from the village harbour and glide down a tranquil river canal, surrounded by swaying reeds and willows, fully immersing yourself in the region’s natural splendour.

Situated on the shores of Lake Skadar in Montenegro, Virpazar is a picturesque village surrounded by stunning mountain ranges, lush green forests, and crystal-clear waters. Its scenic boat tours, traditional cuisine, and rustic architecture make it a popular destination. Bird watching, hiking, and wine tasting are popular activities, as it is located in the heart of Montenegro’s wine region. This charming destination is perfect for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in the natural beauty and tranquillity of the Montenegrin countryside.

  • Vranjina - As you exit the tranquil river canal, you will be greeted with a breathtaking sight of the distant Albanian Alps and Vranjina Island. The island stands proudly, emerging from the sparkling waters of Lake Skadar, which is one of the largest lakes in Southern Europe. The view is magnificent, with the mountains towering in the distance and the island’s beauty adding to the stunning natural landscape. Take a moment to fully appreciate the view before continuing on your sightseeing cruise, as this vista is one of the highlights of the Lake Skadar experience.
  • Lesendro - As you sail through the meadows of water chestnuts surrounding the lake, you’ll glimpse this magnificent fortress. Lesendro is not just a historical site but also a paradise for birdwatchers, with various bird species in the vicinity, such as cormorants, herons, and gulls. Thanks to the Morača River, which flows into Lake Skadar, the area is recognized as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area.
  • Skadar Lake National Park - Be captivated by the endless carpet of white and yellow water lilies, surrounded by large, floating dark green leaves. It’s no wonder why Skadar Lake is considered one of the most stunning places in Montenegro. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some adorable baby birds nesting among the water lilies, making this experience unforgettable.
  • Pavlova Strana Viewpoint - Cruise through the picturesque Pavlova Strana Fjord. Taste the wine from Montenegro’s famous wine cellar, rakija, and other local delicacies as you discover all the beautiful corners of the Crnojevića River.

A must do - Beautiful scenery a must if you are in the area. Our driver was great with lots of local knowledge. Download the Merlin Bird ID App (free) to tell you about the birds. We had a private tour which was great so we could get in and swim as a family but I did think it was a little pricey at €170

Wonderful Day on the Lake - My husband and I booked a private 4 hour boat tour of Lake Skadar with Kingfisher. The lake is incredibly beautiful with the lily pads, surrounding mountains and countless species of birds and is definitely a must see when you're in Montenegro! Our guide Ilija (I apologize if that is misspelled) was so friendly and knowledgeable of the area and had many interesting stories to share. Delicious pastries, honey, wine, and raki were provided. What a relaxing afternoon! Highly recommended!

Beautiful views - My husband and I did the 6-hour tour on the third day of our trip and we both loved it. Our guide, Bakip (not sure about the spelling) was great, always slowing down the boat when we passed by birds and drawing our attention to them. This isn't the type of tour where the guide shares so many facts with you that you can't remember all of them, but is rather a relaxing boat ride through a beautiful lake to a cute little village for lunch. Unfortunately it started downpouring on our way back, but Bakip did a good job of keeping our spirits up and the rain added another later of beauty to the area. We were served local wine and traditional Montenegrin breakfast fried dough, both of which were delicious. I recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the Lake Skadar area and spend a relaxing day in nature.

Stunning lake - It’s stunning lake and would be perfect if you go private or with small group. Also I guess it’s better to go either in the early morning or to see sunset. Pelicans are only in Albanian side unfortunately.

Half-day trip, 6 hours, by boat in Skadar - Friendly staff, at reception like the skipper. 23 people on the boat. Very beautiful landscapes but quite similar throughout the walk. Perhaps a little far from aerial views. To do it again we would take a 2h39 walk which would be more than sufficient.

V good but a little too long - Lovely day out with a nice tour guide. But we felt the trio could have been shorter overall but a linger stop to get food

to relax - We took a one-hour boat trip from Virpazar on Lake Skadar. Huge fields of water lilies, but unfortunately not in bloom in May. But it's a pretty nice trip if you love nature. We saw some cormorants, and if we were lucky we might have seen pelicans too.
