• White Palace - Bach Dinh, or the White Palace of Vung Tau City, is situated at 4 Tran Phu Street, on the slope of Big Mountain. Positioned 50 meters above sea level, the White Palace, known in French as La Villa Blanche, dates back to 1898 and was intended as a summer retreat for French Governor General Paul Doumer. Named after his beloved daughter, Doumer returned to France and later became President. It wasn’t until 1916 that the palace was officially used for the holidays of some Indochina-French Governors. Visitors are captivated by its all-white exterior, which is why locals call it “Bach Dinh” (“Bach” means white in Vietnamese).
• Thich Ca Phat Dai - Thich Ca Phat Dai (Platform of Shakyamuni Buddha) is a prominent Theravada Buddhist temple in Vung Tau, southern Vietnam. Located northwest of Lớn Mountain, it was constructed between 1961 and 1963. The site spans approximately five hectares, featuring a Zen Buddhist monastery at the base and the Thích Ca Phật Đài at the summit. The Zen monastery, a small brick temple, was built by a Vung Tau government official in 1957. In 1961, the Buddhist association renovated the monastery and decided to construct the Thich Ca Phat Dai further up the mountain. Additional accommodations were added for Buddhist pilgrims visiting the site.
• The Whale Temple - Situated to the right of Thang Tam’s Holy Temple, the Whale Tomb was established alongside the Temple of the Five Elements in the late 19th century. The tomb houses a massive whale skeleton collected by local fishermen over a century ago. According to legend, in the mid-19th century, a large whale head washed ashore at Tam Duong Beach. The head was so enormous that villagers had to enclose it with bamboo sticks and wait several days for the flesh to decompose, leaving only the bones. These bones were then transported to the temple, where they have been venerated ever since. Over the years, more whale bones have been gathered and preserved at the temple.
• Chơn Không Monastery - Chon Khong Monastery is one of the most stunning monasteries in Vung Tau, featuring the largest golden Buddha. The monastery underwent expansion and added new facilities and decorations in early 2022. It offers a beautiful view of the city from the hill.
