Alternative to 800 steps - From Little Petra, take the jeep and start the trek (17km in the end) which will allow you to have a superb view of the canyons while walking on mountain tracks to arrive at the Monastery.

Fantastic - We visited Petra yesterday by the back road. We were so fortunate to contact Ahmed Hero (+962777570043; it’s a WhatsApp number too). Ahmed is a magnificent guide and person, very well knowledgeable and attentive. He waited for us (we had a delay arriving to Petra as we got lost driving) at the Visitor center and in a sec, took us the way back in a 4 wheel drive. That way we only had to walk almost an hour and learn a lot about Petra. He show us a magnificent area to spot the Monastery. He even is a great photographer (took many pictures of us). He speaks very well English (my wife language), Spanish (my language), Italian (group of tourist on the road) and I did not ask what else (my bad). He also recommend us a bakery that is to loose your mind (Sanibel) and a 5 star restaurant in Petra (Sajiat Al janoob). Ahmed my brother, thanks again for taking care of us and I hope we will see you soon

Back door to Petra - A Great guide to take you hike through the magnificent landscapes and a better way to enjoy the Treasury as the crescendo when the hike ends.

Don't waste your time and money - Really, don't do it. We hired an 8 hour tour with a guide (intemediated by Samaha Tours) given that we were loking forwards to discover Petra with a professional with whom learning all of the historical context surrouding this wonderfull place. The guide WASN'T UTHORIZED, Petra guides have a certified batch and he didn't apparently there are lots of unothorized guides in Petra, well this was one of those. To make long story short; .- The guide was not authorized, and what its worse, he couldnt even explain any historical context or facts literally saying "this is very old". Totally unacceptable. .-We hired the english tour and the guide wasn't fluent, it was very hard to undertand him. .-We hired the 8 hour tour and the guide tried to offer us 3 hours "guided" and 5 hours free. It seems a joke when you have payed for an 8 hour tour. -. The guide picked us up at the hotel (with a colleague that was driving) and drove us to the Monastery making us squash 4 people on the back side of the car with 3 places only. Very unsafe. .-Last but not least the guide talked to 1 of us only and was invading the personal space, speaking way to close to us which make us feel very unconfortable. As a conclusion, the guide ruined us the experience in Petra. It is a better option to hire the tours in Petra Visitor Center and ensure the guide is qualified and authorized given that Viator's local operator don't.
