First Day Visit to The Rose City of Petra by the Main Classical Trail

Al-Khazneh - After breakfast, spend the day with your private guide exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra, also known as the Rose City. This ancient site was rediscovered in 1812 AD and was initially settled around the 6th century BC by the Nabataean tribe from the Arabian Peninsula. Begin your remarkable archaeological adventure on foot through a narrow Siq, which leads you to the iconic façade of Al-Khazneh (the Treasury). Continue your exploration inside the ancient site, discovering tombs, temples, an extraordinary amphitheater, and a Roman colonnaded street.

Al Madras “The Secret Way” - Experience a Bird’s Eye View of the Treasury

The Royal Tombs - Today, venture off the beaten path for your second day of touring in Petra! Al Madras “Secret Way” is truly off the tourist trail, offering a scenic view of the Treasury from above. Continue exploring the site by visiting the High Place of Sacrifice, Wadi Farasa, Great Temple, and Royal Tombs. After completing your tour inside the ruins, follow the route down to the outer Siq and back to the main gate.

Petra via the Backdoor to the Monastery

Monastery (Al Dayr) - On your third day of touring in Petra, visit Siq Al Barid, also known as “Little Petra,” the Nabatean customs point outside the city limits of Petra. Reach the ancient settlement of Siq al Barid, where preserved remains of water pipes, cisterns, and frescoes can be found, and continue a few kilometers further to the Neolithic site of Baidha. The landscape changes noticeably as you pass through Wadi Merwan to Petra, with rugged terrain, sandstone formations, and sparse vegetation in the valley bottom. This route involves some hiking, including a 10-meter-long narrow rocky passage that requires careful navigation. After this challenging section, you will be rewarded with the breathtaking view of ad-Deir. The magnificent sight makes the effort worthwhile! On your way out, discover the Wadi Turkomanieh rock grave in the uniquely colored sandstone.
