Lawrence’s Spring - Lawrence Spring -
Upon meeting in Wadi Rum village, the jeep tour begins with a visit to Lawrence Spring. Locally known as Ain Abu Aineh, this spring is a short hike up Jebel Rum from the stopping point. Visitors are encouraged to follow the pipeline to the spring, where breathtaking views await. The pipeline supplies water to a trough where camels drink. Nearby, a large rock features ancient hieroglyphs from the Nabateans, who inhabited the area around 300 B.C. -
Wadi Rum Protected Area - Red Sand Dunes -
The next destination is the Red Sand Dunes, a high dune of soft, beautiful red sand. Climbing to the top reveals a rocky plateau with stunning 360-degree views of the expansive desert, encircled by Jebel Rum, Um Ishrin, and Jebel Khazali.
- Jebel Khazali - Khazali Canyon -
The tour pauses near Khazali Canyon, where a short walk leads to a narrow split in the Khazali mountain, opening into a high-walled canyon. Sunlight filters through, highlighting the pink, brown, and grey hues of the rock walls. Inside, three rock pools can be found, dry in summer and filled after winter rains. Khazali Canyon is renowned for its diverse rock art and inscriptions from Thamudic, Arab, and Nabatean cultures, including petroglyphs of humans, animals, and footprints, as well as Kufic script, an early form of Arabic writing.
- Little Bridge - Little Rock Bridge -
Also referred to as Little Arch, the next stop is a small rock outcrop, easily accessible for a walk to the rock bridge. This spot is ideal for photos taken from the center of the bridge.
Note: Little Rock Bridge is situated in the desert, not in Wadi Rum village as Viator incorrectly states.
- Lawrence’s House - Lawrence House -
Lawrence House is about a 10-minute drive southeast from Little Rock Bridge, deep in the Wadi Rum desert. Believed to be built on Nabatean ruins, a small Nabatean inscription is nearby. It is rumored, though not confirmed, that T. E. Lawrence (of Lawrence of Arabia fame) stayed here while living with the Bedouin in Wadi Rum. The view from the house stretches for kilometers along the valley floor to the northeast, and even further to the south. This location likely served as a strategic lookout for both the Nabateans and Lawrence with the Bedouin tribes during the Arab revolt against the Turks a century ago. Today, only the house remains amidst the desert’s silence.
- Wadi Rum Protected Area - Lunch stop -
Midday brings a lunch break, with a cool spot chosen during summer visits. The guide prepares fresh food, cooking galayet bandora over a fire, accompanied by dishes like hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, bread, and more. There is time to relax and explore the surroundings.
- Mushroom Rock - Mushroom Rock -
Post-lunch, the tour heads to Mushroom Rock, located deep in the desert (not in the village). This intriguing rock formation resembles a mushroom, offering excellent photo opportunities as visitors “hold up” the massive rock.
- Burdah Rock Bridge - Burdah Rock Bridge -
The next stop is near Burdah Rock Bridge, a rock arch part of the Burdah mountain range, towering 300m above the valley floor. While a full-day tour includes a hike to the top, this tour offers a view of the arch from the opposite side of the valley floor.
- Burrah Canyon - Abu Khashaba Canyon and sand dunes -
Abu Khashaba Canyon -
A highlight of the day is the walk through Abu Khashaba Canyon. The jeep stops at the canyon entrance, and the guide drives around the mountain to the other end to wait. The hike is easy, with a short rocky section in the middle, taking about 35 minutes, or less for the very fit. It’s best to take time to enjoy the trees and cool temperatures.
Abu Khashaba sand dunes -
Near the canyon’s exit is a sand dune perfect for sandboarding. A sandboard is provided at no charge for fun in the sand.
- Um Frouth Rock Arch - Um Frouth Rock Bridge -
A popular attraction on the itinerary, Um Frouth Rock Bridge is the final rock arch visited on this tour. Located in the white desert, it is almost camouflaged among similarly colored rocks. Most visitors can climb to the top and walk across the bridge.
-
Chicken Rock - Chicken Rock -
This intriguing rock formation resembles a chicken from one angle, though some see a cow. Decide for yourself.
Soft Sand Dunes -
Nearby is a large, free-standing sand dune of very soft sand. The wind creates beautiful patterns and ripples, and the tracks of small beetles and lizards are clearly visible, making for excellent photographs.
- Real Bedouin Experience Tours & Camp - Sunset viewing and Overnight stay - includes dinner and breakfast.
A short drive from Chicken Rock leads to the camp, the day’s final stop, in time for sunset viewing. This is where the evening and overnight stay occur.
The camp is in the Um Sabatah area of Wadi Rum desert, renowned for stunning sunsets. Guests can relax with Bedouin tea in the dining tent, sit on the red sands, or climb the small mountain behind the camp for panoramic sunset views.
After dinner, guests gather on comfortable mats around a fire in the Bedouin tent (in winter) or outside under the starry sky (in summer) to enjoy tea, conversation, singing, dancing, and stargazing. Discussions about Bedouin culture and desert life are encouraged. When ready, guests retire to their tents for a peaceful sleep in the desert’s tranquility.
