- Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre - We see old hotels and stations as we drive through the quaint town. Then, we drive onto the gravel plains of the Namib desert, with our first stop at the Lichen field. This tiny plant is a collaboration between a mushroom and an algae; we learn how they complement each other and survive.
- Moon Landscape Viewpoint 4 - The gravel road leads us to various viewpoints along the Moon Landscape. Traces of lava flow periods and ice ages are evident all around. It feels like being on another planet, walking on the moon. We see some Uranium exploration sites and possibly some desert animals like Zebra or Springbuck.
- Goanikontes - Goanikontes is an oasis in the Swakopmund River. It’s a significant location in the area’s history as it was the first watering hole in the desert from Swakopmund, an old police post, and a place where vegetables were grown. We learn the fascinating history as we pass through the dry riverbed.
- Welwitschia Plains - Amazingly, on the hard gravel plains where nothing else grows, we find the ancient Welwitschia plant. This unique plant has no stem and only two leaves; it has adapted to absorb moisture from fog and the little rain, and can live for hundreds of years. There are male and female plants, pollinated by small brown and orange bugs that live in the plants. Thousands of seeds are produced and spread by the harsh prevailing winds. Nature is incredible.
- Dune 7 - After a long ride through the desert, we pass Dune 7 near Walvis Bay. Unfortunately, we do not climb the dune; we only have time to view it. We then return to the Walvis Bay harbor.
