Highlights
  • Grasshopper Active - Bangkok Day Tours by Bike - Gather at the Discova Day Tour Shop Bangkok across MRT Sam Yod station next block to Miramar hotel at 9:00 am. The tour will depart at 9:30 am sharp. Make sure you allow plenty of time to get here, taking into account the heavy Bangkok traffic. After a quick bike fitting and briefing we are off on the bikes. Cycling off the main roads we use small lanes, alleyways and canal boats to immerse you into the soul of Bangkok.
  • Santa Cruz Church - Go along the banks of the Chao Phraya River is where Bangkok first began. Stopping at the first Christian community of Santa Cruz to visit the descendants of the early Portuguese traders who have been making a Portuguese cupcake for over 5 generations.
  • Wat Kalayanamit Varamahavihara - Pedal to Chinese Thai temple of Wat Kalayanamit and the site of Bangkok’s first Chinatown. Wat Kalyanamit houses Bangkok’s largest sitting Buddhist image.

Next stop will be at the Chapel of Wat Hongrattanaram. We will briefly see a shrine devoted to the first king of Bangkok, Taksin. This temple is the largest in Thonburi and according to some the most beautiful in Bangkok.

  • Wat Hong Rattanaram Ratchaworawihan - Here we will park our bikes briefly to see a shrine devoted to the first king of Bangkok, Taksin. The Chapel of Wat Hongrattanaram is the largest in Thonburi and, according to some, the most beautiful in Bangkok.

  • Khlong Bang Luang Artist House - Cycling back lanes and pedaling along small tree-lined canals, we will arrive at an old wooden market with a historic community temple. Centuries ago, trading communities formed along the canals on the outskirts of Bangkok to buy the goods coming to market from the outlying farms and orchards. The former wealth of these trading communities can be seen in the elegant architecture of the temples they left behind.

  • Khlong Bang Luang Artist House - You’ll also get to enjoy a tasty canal side lunch and a traditional canal boat ride before visiting an artist house. All the essentials – water, lunch, drinks, and snacks – are included to make your tour a meaningful experience.

  • Khlong Luang - A group of Artists has taken up residence in a 200-year-old traditional wooden house on the banks of Khlong Bang Luang. Marvel at a show of the most unique puppetry you may ever see, as the art is combined with traditional Khon dance by the Hoon Lek puppeteers. The modern inhabitants of the old wooden trading houses these days sell artwork and vintage crafts as well as fish food for you to feed the abundant fish in the canal.

  • Chao Phraya River - After stowing the bikes in the back of a long tail boat, you and your guide wend your way down the ancient canals to Chao Phraya River. Sailing up the River of the Kings, you will pass the Grand Palace before docking near Khaosan Rd.

  • Grasshopper Active - Bangkok Day Tours by Bike - Once you’ve disembarked from the boat with your bike, we’ll pedal a short distance back to the Discova Day Tour Shop to finish the tour around 3:30 pm.

Great time riding the back roads! - Very fun day led by Tammy. We were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour. Super fun riding the back roads/alleys of Bangkok. Tammy explained and helped us experience many things in the temples that we would not have been able to do by ourselves. Thanks so much Tammy.

Best day in Bangkok ever! - Kan was a knowledgeable, informative and entertaining guide who also made an extra effort to make sure that my wife felt safe and comfortable on her bike throughout the day. We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the quieter, more.local side of BKK. Something we love to do in every city we visit! 5 star tour!!

So much culture and fun - This tour was so inclusive of many different areas that we wouldn’t be able to experience otherwise. The bike portion was good the alleyways can be narrow (be careful). The canal portion was a great way to East and sight see. This tour really shows you how people live and the lunch was great, so was the puppet show. The tour guide, Tammy was so personable and informative. We saw so much and was able to immerse our self in the culture. Loved it!

Fantastic!! - This was a highlight in Bangkok for me. Our experienced guide "Seen" was expert at getting across busy streets into the backstreets and canal areas of the city that tourists don't see. We rode through several communities that all live together and received many waves and smiles as we rode past the homes of locals. Such was exceptional along a canal and plenty of time to visit and wander. Our canal boat ride was awesome as was the 4 ft. monitor we saw lounging on the riverside. This is an activity I would highly recommend. Bikes were in great working order and the shop was immaculate. (Bikes could use some cleaning as far as grease on the chains.) We look forward to hiring this company again for some extended cycling in Asia.

Excellent off-the-beaten-track 5 hours in Bangkok - It was just my husband and I who signed up so we had great guide Black all to ourselves. He was very informative (excellent English) and very safety conscious in the small amount of biking we did have to do on busy streets. The lunch at a local, canal-side, open-air restaurant was excellent. The only reason that I dinged it a star was because Grasshopper had moved its office/meeting place when the Grab driver got us to the address provided. Between the two of us and two locals who tried to help all calling the number Grasshopper provided, over 40 times during 45 minutes, the phone was always busy. They finally called us when we had not shown up at the appointed time, and told the driver where to find them. Since reserving a couple of months beforehand, Grasshopper had moved and changed its phone number without notifying us -- very poor business practice.

Bangkok back streets - We liked our guide, Tammy, who was helpful, and she took us to some interesting places. However, the trip was longer than we would have liked, especially in the heat. We were on the bikes for about 4 hours, with a lot of twists and turns in narrow places. We were on the canal for less than 20 minutes. We had expected to be on the bikes less and the canal more. The lunch was good -- we appreciated that. It was just my husband, me and Tammy on the tour.

Yes and No. - Hmmm, difficult one this. We certainly saw a different side of Bangkok. Everybody was very friendly and the lunch was good. We also had an interesting stop for a drink (excellent iced coffee in my case) at a cafe down a maze of passages which we would never have found any other way. However the actual cycling around was a bit scary at times - much of it is on back streets but the start and finish, and some bits in the middle are necessarily along / across busy roads. You just have to trust that the vehicles will slow or stop to let you through, and that's a bit frightening. We felt that our guide (Tom) could have stopped more frequently to check we were all safely across the roads, and we nearly lost him at one point when we had got cut off by a turning car.
