Highlights
  • Krakowskie Przedmiescie - The main boulevard street of Warsaw, reminding you if the city’s royal past. Adorned with palaces, parks and monuments, including the Presidential Palace, Bristol Hotel and St. Cross Church, where the heart of Chopin is interred.
  • Old Town - Old medieval core of Warsaw with its red roofs, colourful houses and the Royal Castle is the most unlikely UNESCO Heritage Site, as it was fully reconstructed following the near full destruction during WW2. The reconstruction was done so meticulously that you will have hard time telling that it’s not old, and it set the example for the rest of the world.
  • New Town Square - Curiously named New Town, this part of the city was also established in the Middle Ages. It’s the place of birth of Maria Skłodowska-Curie. The Barbican, standing between the Old and New Town, is a conclusion ground of our walk. Thank you for joining!

A high level overview of Polish history and culture - Generally speaking learning about all the different museums on Polish history and culture. Specifically I enjoyed learninf about Chopin’s importance and significance on Polish independence and culture. Also, the amount of buildings that had to be rebuilt after the war.

Brilliant way to see the city - Łukasz was a brilliant tour guide. He mixed humour, history and anectodes seamlessly.- there was even a quiz thrown in. We were only in Warsaw for 24 hours so it was a great way for us to see some of the city and learn about its incredible history. If we were staying longer, we would have done the Jewish history tour with Łukasz also. We booked and pre-paid but there was an opportunity to pay what you think the tour was worth at the end for those that hadn't.

Much listening, little seeing. - Just a two-hour spiel that a dwindling number of folk listened to. You don’t *see* very much. We stayed to the end only because we’d paid in advance. At one point another guide brought their group close to ours. He had visuals to show them to bring stories to life. Nothing like that for us. We didn’t go inside any buildings (a real contrast with other city walking tours we’ve done) and after it finished we saw far more of Warsaw (much of it close by) on our own. We found the Warsaw Uprising Monument, for instance, a short walk away from where our group stood looking at nothing in particular listening to our guide tell us about the uprisings for 20 minutes. Taking us to the monument would surely have brought it home much more. An opportunity missed.
