Superb - I recommend this experience to everyone young and old there was 8 of us all adults and we had a full day and evening of fun and entertainment the castle was very educational as well as interactive as for the dungeon which you have to pay extra for (very good price for the experience) £6 each the light trail after dark was out of this world with the music accompanying lights exceptional well worth a day and evening out Geoff Evans

Lovely Christmas break - We stayed over in a woodland lodge over the Christmas period and the whole family had a wonderful time. We went ice skating and had a look round the castle and the wonderful grounds. Then booked into our lodge which was lovely, and had a cavern with a show. In the morning we had breakfast and went to Santa’s stories. Santas stories was great and all the staff were great.

Great but expensive - We attended the Christmas Santa Reading event. The price was £380 give or take. The price included 2 adults and 1 child. It allowed access to the castle for the day. It was then followed by a meal in the knights hall (£98 for a carvery and 1 drink each) and an overnight stay. The hotel itself was really impressive and we all really enjoyed the room. It was genuinely lovely. Clean, new and the staff were excellent. We spend some time in the bar and the prices were pretty eye watering. A pint was £7 and a glass of wine was £12. The bar was lovely though and staff were good. In the morning we were woken by an elf who gave our son a sleigh bell which was fantastic. We then went for a buffet breakfast (included) before meeting santa and being read a story. Again, this was excellent. We didn't do the castle day trip as the weather was terrible but have been before and that too was excellent. Overall a great experience but, taking into account we didn't do anything during the day, it was a £600 trip which was steep.

Rainy opening night to the light trail. - Lovely evening on opening night of the 2024 light trail. Good mix of lights music and drama as we spent hour and half walking around the site. Weather was poor but the half way Greatest Showman tent with mulled wine seating and plenty of heating spurred us on. Only downside tbh was the lighting of the footpaths.....blue lights used but only to the right of path...this caused a few challenging moments for those is our party whom had some mobility issues. We would have valued the lights on either side of the path especially as the blue light was not bright enough.

Good but could be better - The lights were great but the signage around the castle and within is not very good. Pictures are also quite expensive based on the quality and poor editing.

Bad ice skates spoil a good visit. - Excellent enjoyable visit to castle and grounds but main reason for visit was open air ice skating. Rink was good and not too crowded but totally spoilt by the awful skates supplied. Several of our party are very experienced skaters but ALL had difficulty standing still or pushing off, due to the skates. Flat bottom blades? The only skaters managing to skate freely were those in their own skates! Until they change/improve the skates avoid.

Expensive - Went for the light trail. The light trail itself was okay. Paths were very dark and slippery due to the rain - I'd be very cautious going if there is any chance of ice. Car park was an extra £7. Still charging "day time rate" when we arrived at 4pm? Market stalls, paid £16 for a small pick and mix and some candy floss. Halfway round they were asking for £5.50 for a bit of corn on the cob. Overall just expensive.

Too busy - The ice rink was very busy when we went - I think they had booked too many people on either that or they were just not supervised. Would not recommend with kids who have not got much skating experience - it was a shame as the setting was beautiful

Pre booked tickets NOT honoured. - Don’t trust pre booked tickets. We booked in October for 6 people. The ticket clearly states “entry to the castle until 4pm. We arrived at 3.40 and were denied entry as “they were full” Presumably they overbook to get as many in as possible. There was no one to complain to, so having driven 200 miles with grandchildren we left utterly disappointed. I emailed my complaint and only got a partial refund after 56 days by involving the CEO of the parent company. Never, never will I trust them, and next year it’s the far superior Blenheim Palace for us.
