Explore the often overlooked yet influential punk scene in Washington, DC. During the 1980s, as the Reagan Administration reinstated the Selective Service, and hippies transitioned into yuppies, the punk movement emerged as a response to what was perceived as a soulless government. Although punk is frequently linked to London, New York, and Los Angeles, DC boasted a significant scene, particularly in the Gallery Place neighborhood and beyond. This tour will reveal what set DC’s punk culture apart from others, highlight the key figures in the movement, and discuss its enduring influence on the local music scene today. The tour concludes at the MLK Jr. Library, home to DC’s Punk Archive.
