Gaze into the world-famous Hope Diamond, whose brilliant blue sparkle, and immodest size at 46 karats, captured the attention of former owner Marie Antoinette. Wander through the displays of gems and minerals, including the Dom Pedro Aquamarine, the world’s largest gem of its type, which glows brilliantly from within. Travel back in time to learn about death rituals while exploring real mummies from Ancient Egypt. Then step out of the past into the wild, exploring the mighty polar bears, elephants, and giraffes that roam across earth’s surface. From the land, jump into the sea at the Ocean Hall, where you’ll discover a live coral reef exhibit as well as a 45-ton whale, Phoenix, which is a replica of a real living what that the museum tracks. By the end, you’ll understand why so many people come to visit the 126.5 million artefacts housed at the National Museum of Natural History.

Leigh was amazing! - We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. What a wonderful museum! We got so incredibly lucky to have an awesome tour guide! Leigh was absolute best, extremely knowledgeable, witty, and in tune with everyone in the group - adults and kids. She made stories home alive without smothering us with unnecessary data that we might not care for or understand.

Highly recommend a tour for this remarkable museum - I believe it’s my favorite museum and I have seen a lot of museums. Highly recommend a tour guide. Our tour guide was named Rebecca. She was incredibly knowledgeable and vital. There is so much to see that it would be easy to leave without experiencing the Best of what the Museum has to offer. Don’t leave Washington DC without experiencing this remarkable museum!

Need a whole day to experience! - The museum is amazing! There is so much to see you could spend the whole day!
We had a tour guide for this trip - plus side… only 6 people in the group and an extra information you may not normally get. Down side.. I felt like we were given little bits of info then had to move on. We didn’t really get a chance to look at anything for long. I would have liked to take more time in each room to get the full experience. Our guide, while he had some good info and stories, seemed impatient with us. We HAD to stay near him at all times. Not what we expected.

Pretty ringing - Up to 10 prebooked tours with guide, the only one that fell through. The guide, who only had 7 guests with him, walked around at a snugle pace - I immediately think to pull the time as much as possible, as he had nothing exceptional to offer. You got more out of reading the signs than listening to the illuminated guide. Going to The Smithsonian, save money on a guide and do it yourself......
