Highlights
  • Washington Monument - The Washington Monument is an obelisk located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., erected to honor George Washington, the former commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the United States. Positioned almost directly east of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial, this monument, constructed from marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, holds the title of the world’s tallest predominantly stone structure and the tallest obelisk, reaching a height of 554 feet 7 11⁄32 inches.
  • National World War II Memorial - The World War II Memorial is a significant national monument dedicated to Americans who served in the military and as civilians during World War II. Featuring 56 pillars and two small triumphal arches encircling a plaza and fountain, it is situated on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on the former site of the Rainbow Pool at the eastern end of the Reflecting Pool, between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial - The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a 2-acre national memorial in Washington, D.C., that pays tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces who served in the Vietnam War, those who died in service in Vietnam/Southeast Asia, and those who were unaccounted for during the war.
  • Lincoln Memorial - The Lincoln Memorial is a national monument in the United States built to honor Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President. Located at the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., opposite the Washington Monument, it was designed by architect Henry Bacon. The primary statue of Abraham Lincoln, created in 1920, was designed by Daniel Chester French and carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, with interior murals painted by Jules Guerin. Dedicated in May 1922, it has always been a major tourist attraction and, since the 1930s, a symbolic center for race relations.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial - The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial is situated in West Potomac Park adjacent to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Covering four acres, it includes the Stone of Hope, a granite statue of Civil Rights Movement leader Martin Luther King, sculpted by Lei Yixin. The memorial’s design was inspired by a line from King’s “I Have A Dream” speech: “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” It opened to the public on August 22, 2011, after over two decades of planning, fundraising, and construction.
  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial - The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is a presidential monument in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, and the era he represents. Designed by landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, the memorial site is considered the capstone of his distinguished career, partly due to his fond memories of Roosevelt and partly because of the challenge of the task.
  • Jefferson Memorial - The Jefferson Memorial is a presidential monument in Washington, D.C., constructed between 1939 and 1943 under the sponsorship of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. For Roosevelt, it was a fitting tribute to Thomas Jefferson, a Founding Father of the United States and the founder of the Democratic Party. The neoclassical building is located in West Potomac Park on the shore of the Tidal Basin off the Washington Channel of the Potomac River. Designed by architect John Russell Pope and built by Philadelphia contractor John McShain, the building’s construction began in 1939 and was completed in 1943, with the bronze statue of Jefferson added in 1947.
