A monumental figure in history and a key factor in the Allies’ victory in World War II, we owe much to Sir Winston and his vision of a free and unified Europe. Many of the notable accomplishments of Sir Winston, including the crafting of his Nobel Prize-winning memoirs, occurred at Chartwell. Heavily altered and expanded by Sir Winston, aspects of Chartwell were constructed by Churchill himself, from enlarging and extending the main house to building brick walls in the kitchen garden. This tour invites you to not only explore the house and the surrounding area but also uncover, with your guide’s assistance, how Churchill shaped a beloved family home.
