Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong - Pakbeng, Laos

Chiang Khong - Chiang Khong is a quaint town in Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand. It is primarily visited as a transit point on the way to Laos and acts as the Thai counterpart to the Lao border town of Huay Xai, situated just across the Mekong River. Travelers will pass through Chiang Khong to cross the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge No. 4. A bus ride is required to cross the border, which is included in the service.

At the border, the driver can assist with visa documentation if necessary. Travelers can obtain a visa on arrival (payable in cash) or use an e-visa. Please remember that a passport-sized photo is required. If one is not available, the team can help in obtaining one at the border.

Once the bridge is crossed, the Laos guide will be waiting on the Laos side.

Huay Xai - Houayxay (Huay Xai) is the capital of Bokeo Province in Laos. The Laos border control is located in this city. After meeting the Laos guide, they will escort travelers to the boat pier to board the boat.

Pak Beng - 10:00 AM: Arrive at Pak Tha for the boat permission checkpoint. The guide will share the Do’s and Don’ts in Laos, along with some interesting facts. Enjoy a traditional Lao meal for lunch on the boat.

Afternoon: Visit a traditional Kamu village (Ban Khmu Law), a small, welcoming community of around 70 families. Travelers will learn about rural lifestyles in this remote area before continuing the journey to Pakbeng.

5:00 PM: Arrive in Pakbeng for an overnight stay (accommodation not included).

Please prepare a day pack, as luggage can be left on the boat.

Pakbeng to Luang Prabang, Laos

Pak Ou Caves - 08:00 AM: Depart from Pakbeng.

Morning: Enjoy a demonstration of local handicrafts by the guide. Participate in preparing Lao desserts and drinks.

Lunch: Savor a traditional Lao meal on the boat.

Afternoon:

Visit Ban Muang village, renowned for its Lao whiskey. Explore the famous Pak Ou Caves, home to over 2,000 Buddha statues.

Luang Prabang - The boat is expected to dock in Luang Prabang at around 5:00 PM, and travelers will be transferred to their hotel. Please inform the team of the hotel for drop-off.
