Powerscourt Waterfall is a stunning natural wonder nestled in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, close to Enniskerry. Just 5km from Powerscourt House and Gardens, this 121-meter waterfall has been drawing visitors for over two centuries.
As visitors drive from the gate lodge towards the waterfall, they are surrounded by beech, oak, larch, and pine trees, some planted over 200 years ago. There are also giant redwood or sequoia trees, native to California, planted at Powerscourt after 1860.
- Glendalough Monastic Settlement - Glendalough hosts one of Ireland’s most significant monastic sites. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, this early Christian monastic settlement evolved into the “Monastic City.” Most of the existing structures date from the 10th to 12th centuries. Despite numerous Viking attacks, Glendalough flourished as a major ecclesiastical center and learning institution until the Normans destroyed the monastery in 1214 A.D., leading to the unification of the dioceses of Glendalough and Dublin. Near the monastic city is an interactive center featuring an audiovisual presentation and a model of the monastic site. Visitors are greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to answer any questions. Glendalough is a top attraction on Ireland’s Ancient East.
