Colonial Williamsburg is frequently linked to the Revolutionary War period, but the historic capital also hosts numerous Civil War sites. On May 5, 1862, around 70,000 Union and Confederate soldiers fought in the Battle of Williamsburg. Traces of this fierce conflict remain visible today.
