Additional Information

Embark on a 2-hour round journey starting from the Valley of Willits and proceeding to the highest elevation on our railway track. This trip will guide you through Tunnel #2, leading to the Noyo River Canyon spilling over with redwoods—a fantastic location filled with ecological riches and a prime spot to witness the vast trees that earned Mendocino County their reputation.

The train halts momentarily at Crowley, presenting an opportunity to admire one of the most ancient and characteristic trees on our course, the Wolf Tree. It earned its moniker from a prominent branch sprouting from one side, a feature that foresters term as ‘wolf trees’ for their tendency to overshadow budding trees and shrubs. Travellers will have the chance to disembark at Crowley and soak in the views.

Experience this journey to Crowley inside one of our traditional Diesel-Electric trains.

A Wonderful Step Back in Time - The whole experience was amazing and memorable. We highly recommend spending the extra for lunch. The sandwiches and salad were delicious!! The conductors are great about sharing local history. The Train Singer was incredibly talented and an extra bonus we did not expect.

Beautiful day on the train! - We loved every minute of it. We stood in the open car the entire time and took dozens of pictures. We enjoyed the informative commentary. All in all, a beautiful day.

Take this leg, instead of the Fort Bragg side. - Much better than the Fort Bragg end. It's a longer and more scenic journey. If you like trains, this trip is a must do!

Country road Take me home - It was amazing. It was a hot day, so we decided to stay in an open area and loved it. There was a 30-minute stop, but it was a hot day, and not enough shade was available, so I stayed on the train. The best part was live music by an amazing artist who was kind to everyone. He even sang my request, “Take me home.” He sure is another reason to get back on the train. Yes its worth it, take food and drinks with you and some shade/ sun block too.

Fun experience - This was a great experience and so much fun. The entire crew was friendly, professional, and made the ride memorable from the singing entertainment to the narrative of the area’s history. The train made a stop to reverse the front car/engine for the return trip, and we could get off and enjoy the scenery, an area to play games with family, sit on benches, take more pictures, or take a walk in the forest where the narrator had spoken about this area’s history, and listen to the musician playing music. There was also a nice snack area on the train including popcorn and drinks.

Skunk Train - Part Two - It had been almost 40 years since our last Skunk Train ride, when it went from Willits to Fort Bragg. This ride from Willits went as far as Crowley, a little picnic grove, due to the collapse of a tunnel that now prohibits a full ride from Willits to Fort Bragg. Gave a 4-star rating due to the entertainment and periodic narrations. Otherwise, there’s not a lot to see in the train ride. The Skunk Train can be exciting for small children, first timers and groups who want to socialize on the train, but it would not be considered a recurring thing to do.
