A Croquet Adventure for the Whole Family

When I first heard about the Swift Creek Croquet Club, I was intrigued. Croquet isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when planning a family vacation, but the idea of playing this classic game lakeside with my family sounded like a unique adventure. So, we packed our bags and headed to Woodruff, ready to embrace the unexpected.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly faces of Dale and Jen, who run the club. Their enthusiasm for croquet was infectious, and they quickly put us at ease with a short lesson on how to hold the mallet and the basic strategies of Golf Croquet. My kids, who had never played before, were giggling and eager to start. We were divided into teams, and the games began!

The setting was nothing short of picturesque. Eagles soared overhead as we played on the lush, green court, which felt like playing pool on grass. The laughter and friendly competition made for a perfect family bonding experience. We even enjoyed some refreshments from the clubhouse, which offered a selection of beer, wine, and soda. It was a delightful way to spend the day, and I could see why people describe it as having the time of their lives.

Exploring the Local Charm

After our croquet adventure, we decided to explore the surrounding area. The cabin at Swift Creek Croquet Club was our cozy home base, and it was a croquet player’s paradise. Decorated in a fun and creative way, it even had hidden $1 bills in the most unusual places, adding a touch of whimsy to our stay. The small kitchen allowed us to prepare some meals, saving a few bucks, and the gas fireplace was a welcome comfort during the cooler evenings.

We rented bicycles from the Corner Store in Sayner and rode along the paved bike and snowmobile paths. The fresh air and scenic views were invigorating, and it was a great way to see more of the area. We also visited the giant flea market in St. Germain, which is held on Mondays during the summer months. It was a treasure trove of unique finds and a fun way to spend the afternoon.

More Adventures Await

Our trip wouldn’t have been complete without experiencing some of the other activities Woodruff has to offer. We tried our hand at fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, all of which were readily available in the area. The kids loved the chance to paddle around and explore the waterways.

One of the highlights of our trip was the Lumberjack Show in Woodruff. It was a thrilling display of skill and strength, and we all enjoyed it immensely. The show was a perfect way to cap off our adventure-filled days.

As we packed up to head home, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the memories we had made. The Swift Creek Croquet Club had provided us with a unique and fun-filled family experience, and I knew we’d be back again.
