Upper Loop of Yellowstone Tours including Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley
Yellowstone National Park - Mammoth Hot Springs is made up of calcium carbonate. It tends to migrate from one nearby location to another every one hundred years or so. Travertine terraces which also develop over time. You can hike the boardwalk and see the terraces much clearer. You may find elk hanging out near buildings. They are accustomed to people. But do not get too close to them.
Lamar Valley, also in the Upper Loop, once had glaciers that left huge boulders strewn all over the place. And as you drive not too far to Lamar Valley, you will be welcomed by an astoundingly beautiful valley of lush green grass. It is thought the valley was carved by glaciers as well. It is a big draw for bison, elk and pronghorn. And naturally, where you have large herds of animals, you will find predators as well. Sometimes you can see Grizzlies and wolves.
Tower falls, Calcite Springs and the petrified tree are more places you will see. Super hot sulfuric oil oozes in the Yellowstone River called calcite.

The top loop of Yellowstone is renowned for the unique characteristics of MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS AND LAMAR VALLEY, shaped by their volcanic and glacial pasts. These hot springs migrate approximately every one hundred years, leaving traces of calcium carbonate in their wake. Hiking up the travertine terraces is an engaging activity, where guests often spot fearless elk roaming in the village.
Thought to be formed by glacier activity some millennia ago, Lamar Valley is now scattered with colossal boulders, presumably moved by these same glaciers. As you approach Lamar Valley, you will notice the abundant fauna on the fertile grasslands that are home to bison, pronghorn, and elk, as well as predators like wolves and grizzly bears that prey on them.
In addition to these hotspots, the sights also include Tower Falls and Calcite Springs, known for its intense sulfuric oil emissions. Given sufficient time, we aim to guide you to the renowned petrified tree.
