Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta) - Meet the personal tour guide at 7:30 a.m. to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Constructed during the Tang Dynasty, this pagoda boasts a history of 1,400 years. It is located within the Da Ci’en Temple, which was built for the renowned monk Xuan Zang during the Tang Dynasty. Xuan Zang played a crucial role in introducing and spreading Buddhism. As a dedicated monk, he traveled extensively to India to bring back authentic Buddhist scriptures and teachings. Upon his return, the emperor gifted him a temple and pagoda to house his findings from India and to further honor Buddhism. The pagoda has undergone several restorations, with the most recent in 1964. The guide will show the temple’s interior and the pagoda’s exterior. Entry into the pagoda requires an additional fee. Currently, the area is a large park where locals engage in various activities. In the north square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, there is a large fountain, reputed to be the largest in Asia. A spectacular fountain show occurs every few hours, offering a chance to witness it if fortunate.

Xi’an City Wall (Chengqiang) - As a symbolic historical site in Xi’an, the Ancient City Wall is the best-preserved city wall in China. The entire wall stretches 13.74 km, stands 12 m high, with a base width of 18 m and a top width of 15 m. It was originally constructed based on the Tang Dynasty imperial city, including infrastructures like a city river and corner towers. The wall took about 8 years to complete during the Ming Dynasty, with a history spanning over 600 years. There are four gates: Changle Gate in the east, Anding Gate in the west, Yongning Gate in the south, and Anyuan Gate in the north. As part of the city’s defense system, the wall was designed with a thickness greater than its height, ensuring stability. The top of the wall is wide and stable enough for vehicles. Renting a bike to ride along the wall is recommended.

Muslim Quarter - In the afternoon, visit the world-famous Muslim Quarter. As the name suggests, it is a community where the majority of Muslims in Xi’an reside. Dating back to the Yuan Dynasty, the Muslim Quarter has a history of over 1,000 years. Today, it is renowned for its food culture. In the late 1990s, some Muslims rented spaces here and pioneered the catering industry. The government then attracted more entrepreneurs to enhance its influence, making it one of the most famous food streets in China. The Drum Tower serves as a gateway to this culinary paradise. Upon entering the community, one will be surprised by its size, covering areas like North Guangji Street, Beiyuanmen, Xiyangshi, Dapiyuan, Huajuexiang, and Sajinqiao. Every alley is filled with various catering businesses, from large restaurants to street vendors. Locals often visit to find the most authentic local dishes, while others come to enjoy the sights and aromas.

Xi’an Mosque - Behind the enticing food in the Muslim Quarter, several mosques can be found where Muslims practice their faith. The largest and most notable is the Great Mosque.
The Xi’an Great Mosque, once known as “Qingxiu Mosque” and “Dongda Mosque,” is located in Huajue Alley, northwest of the Drum Tower on West Street. Initially built in 1392 during the Hongwu Ming Dynasty, the mosque has undergone three renovations during the Jiajing and Wanji periods of the Ming Dynasty and the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, resulting in its current form. It showcases architectural features of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, resembling a large square with over 12,300 square meters, housing about 180 rooms, including courtyards, halls, and rooms. It is the largest and best-preserved Islamic mosque in China using traditional architectural styles.
