- Mount Fanjing - Today, you’ll spend the entire day exploring the magnificent Fanjingshan. You’ll take the South Route to ascend the mountain. First, take a park bus from the tourist center to Yu’ao Station, where you’ll board a cable car to the mountain top area, saving you time to enjoy the highlights.
What to see at Fanjingshan
Located in Tongren, Guizhou province (southwest China), Fanjingshan is the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains, standing at 2,570m (8,430ft) above sea level. Besides being a sacred Maitreya mountain for Buddhists, Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and was designated a World Heritage Site in 2018.
Red Cloud Golden Summit, a thumb-like peak, is described by UNESCO as an “island of metamorphic rock in a sea of karst,” believed to have formed between 2 million and 65 million years ago. For many visitors, the main attraction of Fanjingshan is the breathtaking views from the summit.
Mushroom Stone, the landmark of Fanjingshan, is shaped like a mushroom with a large top and a small base. It has stood for over a billion years, enduring rainstorms, summer heat, and winter snow, embodying the Buddhist principle of “remaining unbiased” in all circumstances.
Old Golden Summit, at an elevation of 2,494 meters, is the highest scenic spot in Fanjingshan. At its peak is a temple dedicated to Buddha Dipamkara, offering the best panoramic views of Fanjingshan.
Cheng En Temple, situated between the two summits with its scarlet walls and black tiles, is the main building of the Fanjingshan Temple Group and one of the four Royal temples in Fanjingshan, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368AD-1644AD).
