It's all about the food! - We thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to Taiwanese markets and fruit! The pace was comfortable, we were never rushed, but we also didn't linger in any one spot. The food selection was terrific, mostly local classics, mixed with a couple more modern treats. Jean was a wonderful guide, giving us a quick intro to each food, then letting us enjoy.

Best food tour in Taipei - That was one of the best food tours I have gone on. Our guide Tina explained all the different foods and how they fit in the local culture. There were so many different foods and the portions were large. I came hungry and I left extremely full.

10/10! - You need to do this tour! I did it with my husband (two Kiwis) and they were accommodating of our food preference (no pork or beef). Tina was the perfect guide - charismatic, passionate about food & Taipei, and made the whole experience fun and stress free. I can’t emphasise this enough…. Come hungry! You will get so much food!!! You’ll get everything from fresh fruit from the market, local dishes that are delicious, a couple that are challenging but can be skipped, and finish with some delicious shaved ice. Worth every cent! Such a memorable tour.

I'm still full! - This was the 'Iconic food tour' from the website. A fantastic tour, packed full of local information and delicious food! Our tour guide was fantastic and made everyone in the group feel welcome, we soon all got along which makes the day much more fun as you try many wonderful (and some weird!) dishes. You visit places which don't pop up on websites and as such you get a different experience to just bouncing around night markets etc Highly recommended

Great way to explore the Taiwanese cuisine! - Amazing tour that takes you to very unique and under the radar places that you wouldn’t be able to find on your own. Tour guide is very knowledgeable not just about the food but the city in general. It’s a great way to explore the city while eating delicious Taiwanese food! Super worth it.

Good fun and eats - In terms of Chinese cuisine, I am most familiar with Cantonese food. So for my first visit to Taipei and Taiwan, I booked Taipei Eats' Iconic Food Tour (aka Xinyi District Backstreets Food Tour) as an introduction to their cuisine. The 4 hour tour was informative, fun and tasty. We had 2 tour guides: Jean from Toronto and an apprentice whose name I can't recall, but she was raised in the US and went to Cornell. The tour had many stops and took us through "backstreets" of the Xinyi District, where the iconic Taipei 101 building is located. We traipsed through a classic wet market, where food of all kinds (raw, cooked, dried, still alive, etc.) are on offer alongside non-food items like clothing. The most memorable stops for me were the Taiwanese beef "burger" gua bao, stinky tofu (some taste like bleu cheese), a boba tea place, Taiwanese pancakes, and a sorbet place. Jean purchased bottled water for those of us in need. We also stopped at a betel nut dispensary, but I declined to try this carcinogenic stimulant than you chew like tobacco and then spit out, turning your saliva orange! Our tour was altered a bit because we happened to go on Election Day, and 2 of the usual stops, including one offering Taiwan's iconic dumplings, were closed so the proprietors could go vote. We also stopped at the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and were able to see the changing of the guards. Overall tasty, informative and recommended.
