Yanmenguan is a crucial pass within the inner line of the Great Wall. Known for its strategic and challenging location, it was once considered the foremost of the ‘Nine Passes under Heaven’ in ancient times. This area has been the site of many significant historical battles.

The original pass was constructed on a hilltop during the Warring States Period (476-221 BC) along an ancient trail to defend against Inner Asian nomads. It fell into disrepair during the Yuan Dynasty but was rebuilt in 1374 during the Ming Dynasty.

Follow your tour guide as you hike up and down the Great Wall, taking in the scenic mountain views.

You will also visit two temples and a local village, where you will learn about their histories, stories, and people.

1: Zhenbian Hall, which commemorates the distinguished General Li Mu of the Zhao State (403 – 222 BC).

2: The Temple of Guan Yu, dedicated to the god of war and victory.

3: Yanmen Village
Stroll through the village with your tour guide to learn about the houses, lifestyle, and traditional customs. Enjoy a local-style lunch here.

  • Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda - Next, you’ll head to the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda.

Upon arrival, follow your tour guide to explore this architectural marvel, renowned for its long history, unique design, and exceptional construction techniques.

Built in 1056, the 957-year-old Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County is the world’s oldest and tallest wooden multi-storey building. It holds a significant place in the history of ancient Chinese architecture, showcasing the ingenuity of ancient craftsmen.
