Fantastic Experience - We were collected from our hotel on the western coast and driven in a private car, just my friend and I, to a homestay lunch with Inosha. We were welcomed into her home and she laid out a lovely local meal- far too much for the two of us. She was most hospitable. We were then collected by a jeep and taken to Udawalawa Park where we picked up our guide and drove through the reserve.. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly- answered all our questions patiently and ensured our viewing of many different types of animals- birds, crocodiles, water buffalo, lots of elephants and a group of monkeys. We had two elephant visitors to our jeep and our guide took care that we ended up with a safe yet memorable day and experience. We were collected by our driver and taken to a nearby delightful hotel- nice room, beautiful pool and view. We were collected very early the following day and brought to Yala Park- the gates open at 6 am and we were the 94th in line. The park is so large you don't come into much contact with the other jeeps. Our driver was our guide- saw a leopard finally and other birds and monkeys, in additional to the elephants and buffalo, etc. We were collected by our driver again and taken out to lunch at a local restaurant which was lovely. He then drove us back to our hotel on the coast. Same driver, same airconditioned comfortable car- he took excellent care of us and was able to navigate the Sri Lankan roads- a feat in itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
