Echmiadzin Monastery - The heart of the Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Echmiadzin is situated 20 km from Yerevan. The Cathedral of Echmiadzin, established in the early fourth century, is among the world’s oldest churches. Legend has it that the church was constructed on the site where Jesus Christ appeared to Gregory The Illuminator in a vision. The church’s interior is adorned with frescoes by the Hovnatanyan family. Nearby are the Catholicos’ residence and the Theological Academy. This site is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
