Noravank is a 13th century monastery perched atop the vibrant pink and red cliffs. The journey to Noravank winds through a stunning canyon flanked by towering rock formations. Numerous caves dot the area, with the most notable being Areni 1, also known as the ‘Birds’ Cave,’ where the world’s oldest leather footwear, dating back over 5500 years, was discovered. However, our first stop will be the Khor Virap monastery, the closest site to Mount Ararat and the Armenia-Turkey border, as well as the historic dungeon where St. Gregory was imprisoned for 13 years. Following our historical explorations, we’ll take a moment to unwind with tastings of wine, brandy, and vodka. To cap off our excursion, we’ll enjoy lunch at a charming restaurant by the Arpa River’s shore.
