Made from gray andesite-like stone, it boasts nine stacked platforms—six square and three circular—topped by a central dome. The temple is decorated with an impressive 2,672 relief panels and originally contained 504 Buddha statues. As you navigate its extensive stairways and corridors, you’ll find 1,460 narrative relief panels illustrating the Buddha’s teachings and life.
- Merapi Volcano - (Optional) Visit Mount Merapi, the second most active volcano in the world. We’ll explore a local museum displaying remnants of the 2010 eruption, the largest since 1872. Additionally, we’ll see a giant rock from the eruption that resembles a human face, known as the ‘alien stone.’ There’s much more to discover as well.
