Highlights
  • Park Tower Yokohama Portside Monthly Parking Lot - Begin your journey by crafting your own ink from scratch. You’ll grind an ink stick made from a unique blend of soot, glue, and aromatic fragrances on a traditional “suzuri” stone, slowly releasing the deep, rich ink used in calligraphy.

Then, with a brush dipped in your freshly made ink, you’ll glide over the delicate surface of washi, traditional Japanese paper. Feel the brush’s dance as you form each character, guided by the expertise of a master calligrapher. Their skilled hands and insightful instructions will help you unlock the secrets of this revered art form.

Your artistic exploration continues as you transfer your skills to a “Uchiwa,” a classic Japanese fan. Here, your calligraphy will come to life in a new form, creating a personalized and unique piece of art you can cherish forever.

Conclude this exquisite experience by relaxing with a cup of tea and sweet treats, served in elegant Japanese pottery. This serene moment offers a chance to admire your creations and those of your fellow participants, celebrating the beauty of Japanese art and the shared joy of creation.

Creating Kanji Art - Drawing kanji with a Japanese brush is similar to creating a work of art. Calligraphy is self-expression using special tools such as Fude, Suzuri, Bunchin. Kanji are complicated characters, but I felt calm when I concentrated on them. I don't know if I was able to draw it well, but I was able to create a memorable piece. After finishing the work, we were treated to Japanese tea and sweets, which made us feel relaxed and at home in a Japanese home.

Wonderful calligraphy experience - We used calligraphy brushes to draw Japanese characters for the first time. After hearing the meaning of the kanji from the teacher, I decided on the character I wanted to draw. It was my first experience polishing ink with an inkstone. The pleasant scent wafted in the air and calmed my mind. The salon is right near Yokohama Bay Quarter. There were so many plants in the room that it felt like we were in a forest. We enjoyed Japanese culture while drinking Japanese tea and eating Japanese sweets.
