Action packed day on Monkey Island! A must if you love navy and battleships! - I went by myself and Lucy was the perfect travel guide! She was funny and told stories, very knowledgeable about history. The trip was well worth the money and it was 7 hours long! First we met up at Yokosuka Chuo station and Lucy was wearing an orange cap. We walked to the pier where we saw the first battleship Mikasa and a statue of the general. We did not have time to go in but would have been nice to see inside which I know has fee. It was misty the day we went but luckily it wasn't raining so much so at 10.30am the ferry set off to Monkey Island. When we arrived the tour was 90 minutes seeing all the parts of the island. I went inside some of the rooms which were only available exclusively to this tour. It felt like scenes from a horror movie 😄 Lucy explained the history of Monkey Island, what remains and the future. Such a beautiful and peaceful island with a pivotal past. Enjoyed a drink at the local shop to support the locals. After we boarded the ship again and went to try the Navy burger back at Yokosuka port. Good experience and since there were only two of us Lucy joined me for lunch. We walked around the streets and saw the American bars, too early to go at that time! We walked around and went to the museum which showed us the dry docks. This was a nice place, gave me free pictures to take home. After we headed to the pier and boarded Seas Friend 7, which went around the pier of the American and Japanese Naval bases. I wasn't into much about navy and Japanese history but after the trip I fell in love with the battleships. Never in my life have I see so many!! Lucy had translated the important battle ships and I saw almost all of them as it was a cloudy day so most ships appeared on the dock. There were about 5 submarines. You can also rent out a pair of binoculars for 100 yen. Towards the end Lucy won a prize but she gave it to me, so I was grateful. The tour also included chicken skewers but I opted for Taiyaki and it was good because I got to see how it was made which made the experience better. Taiyaki was also delicious. Overall I would definitely come back to visit again! This is such a hidden gem away from the normal hustle and bustle over touristic places. Our tour guide was invaluable and you cannot plan something like this yourself. I took many pictures but you'll have to go experience it yourself!!
