Fabulous distillery tour - We had a fabulous time on the distillery tour. Dom is passionate & very knowledgable & we could’ve stayed chatting for ages! They produce many gins & other spirits & we heard the story of 4 of them. North, south, east & West Yorkshire gins. We also got to taste them, along with a welcome drink & a complementary drink after the tour. We also got a Hooting Owl gin glass etched with our names to take home. The bar is very smart & thoughtfully decorated & we will certainly go back for a drink when next in York.

A great find in York - We were staying in the Malmaison just up the road and spotted this bar, and highly recommend it. Looked brand new. The bar staff were so lovely and passionate and it had a great atmosphere.

The Best and most amazing experience - Wow, an absolutely amazing afternoon with Tom, who was so passionate and knowledgeable about the gin and the Hooting 🦉 learnt so much and tasted lots. Wonderful keepsake surprise at the end, fantastic value for money, staff were so lovely and made us feel part of their family. Best pub in York, atmosphere, choice and beautifully done. Thank you ❤️

Incredible time - The best tour we have ever had. All the staff are friendly and made you feel incredibly comfortable. Learnt so much and my husband now loves gin (never had it before the tour). Dom had so much passion for the products and the place, plus one of the nicest most genuine people we have ever met. 100% booking another bigger tour next time in York.

What a great afternoon in the Hooting Owl - One of the best Gin tours we have done. Tom our tour guide was great. We tasted lots of different gins which were fantastic and even tasted the rums which were delicious. Dom the owner was great to chat with and the bar staff were super friendly and nothing was a bother for them. Highly, highly recommended. To top it off, the gift at the end was superb.

Distillery tour - Great insight into the distillery and sampling the gins. Tom was a great host and made it a great experience. Not fully converted to a gin drinker but he has opened my eyes to a few flavoured ones. Most definitely good value for money.

Great value, entertaining and informative - A very well spent two hours on a Saturday afternoon facilitated by a knowledgeable and articulate “guide”. The experience comprised a well explained visit to the distillery itself, which was well pitched and accessible to both the novice and those of us who knew a little bit more, and a lengthier guided tasting session in a very comfortable setting. Numbers are limited as the distillery is quite a small space. Lots of wit and humour as well as good explanations of the history and some of the more technical stuff relating to the distillery. The tasting session was probably the best I have attended of its type, and you do need to like gin, because there’s quite a bit of it!!! Our host, Mark made this a very informative and personalised experience, and there were plenty of samples on offer as he talked through the history and philosophy of the business and how this has been applied to the flavours and development of the variety of gins produced. There was not only the opportunity to try the whole range, but also to discuss what we were drinking with the other guests and ask questions of our expert; we were lucky to find ourselves in a very sociable group and had great fun. This is an experience to enjoy with friends, family or partners, but not one for young children. Don’t bank on being able to drive afterwards!! It is great value, enjoyable and informative.

Entertaining gin tour - Great gin tour and good value for money. Relaxed atmosphere and entertaining. Loved the different gins and very generous with the samples. Also got a free gin glass with name engraved on it to take away. Would highly recommend if in York

Must visit! - Mark was an absolutely fabulous host! Very informative, funny and fantastic at keeping us all with a drink! Lovely touch having glasses with our name engraved and letting us try an extra gin! Worth every penny and I can't wait to visit the bar in the future! Thank you so much!

The Hooting Owl, The Best Barn Find Ever! - I had never heard of the Hooting Owl Distillery, it was recommended to me by a friend. My partner and myself had booked a weekend in York and I booked this as a surprise. our Host was Mark, a very friendly and knowledgeable Distiller. There was a small group of 8, three couples and two ladies. the banter was encouraged, the questions were interesting and the answers more so. Do not expect a big factory, this is small but functional. The tasting. Mark was a great host, took us through various tasting methods and we got to try several samples. the owner appeared and it was clear this is more than just a business, banter, fun, alcohol consumption in a relaxed setting. After the tour which I highly recommend, us three couples sat and drank and chatted some more. one ordered a Cheese Platter, it was the perfect example of how to serve a cheese plater, beautifully presented, good choice of both crackers, cheese and fruit. Well done Hooting Owl, you made cold, bleak, miserable looking afternoon, warm hospitable, fun, educational and slightly alcoholic thank you Eddie & Sue
