Highlights
  • Hutton le Hole - You will head off into the Vale of York, learning about life in Yorkshire as you pass through the villages of Strensall, Sheriff Hutton and Hovingham. The first stop is in the traditional National Park village of Hutton-le-Hole, where you can wander amongst the traditional stone-built houses and sheep roaming on the village common land, or just have a leisurely Yorkshire Brew in one of the cafes – the choice is yours!
  • North York Moors National Park - We head off up over the North York Moors for some photo stops, passing the 16th century Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge (the highest point on the Moors) and Ralph’s Cross, then through the quaint and picturesque Yorkshire villages that lead down into Whitby. As you arrive in Whitby, you will hear stories about the seaside town’s history and your guide will tell you about the main places of interest that you may want to visit.
  • Whitby Harbour - You will have two and a half hours free time in Whitby (two hours if taking steam train option), with options to visit Whitby’s newest attraction, The Endeavour Experience (one of only two full-size replicas of the HM Bark Endeavour in existence), the Captain Cook Museum, take the Bark Endeavour scale replica boat trip around the harbour, view Whitby Abbey (inspiration for the Dracula Books) or just explore the shops and market of the seaside town and experience Fish & Chips from the famous Magpie Café – the choice is yours!
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway - If you prefer to spend a little less time in Whitby and take the opportunity of travelling by steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at our special discounted rate, you have the option of boarding the 2.00pm train from Whitby for the 45-minute moorland rail journey through Grosmont to Goathland (Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter movies), where you will re-join the Minicoach. This option is paid locally on the day with no need to book ahead.
  • Goathland Station - We reach Goathland Station in time to see the other passengers arrive by steam train, then learn about “Hogsmeade”, before exploring the picture postcard fictional village of “Aidensfield” in the Heartbeat television series and maybe grab an ice cream from the village store.
  • The Hole of Horcum - We leave Goathland and have a couple more photo stops as you learn the history behind the mysterious RAF Fylingdales Pyramid on Snod Hill and the Hole of Horcum.
  • Castle Howard - We head back towards York through the Howardian Hills with panoramic views of Castle Howard.

Perfect way to see North Yorkshire, do it!! - We had the most magical day doing this tour. There were plenty of loo breaks and our guide and driver Chris knew his stuff. Nothing was too much trouble. Going to Whitby was wonderful and so pretty. We had the best fish n chips I have had in years. We chose to do the steam train to Goathland which was incredible value as Best of Britain get a very good low price. Goathland is beautiful being the village where "Heartbeat" was filmed as well as the Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter franchise. A magic trip all round. Thank you Chris for giving us such a memorable day.

Great region, great tour, great guide! - It was a great experience: John S was a great host, an excellent driver and a first class guide. The weather was not great but still my wife and I enjoyed this day thoroughly. We learned a lot about North Yorkshire, the land and its history. I recommend it highly to all visitors to York who would like to have a broader picture of this important English region

Train visit to Aidensfield on a Wonderful Railway. - The Wife and I went on the train from Whitby to visit the village where "Heartbeat," had been filmed. Only a couple of stops, through beautiful countryside for half an hour or so. Lovely old steam train and carriages from the 1950s and 1970s. Lovely, as it felt like I was on the train that took me to school 55 years ago! All the stations are lovely, and well maintained. The staff, who I think are mainly volunteers, were helpful, informative, and dressed in the uniforms of the day. Absolutely superb trip. Would recommend this highly, and it cost only £50 for our tickets. Worth every penny.

Exceptional tour guide - We can not recommend this tour more highly. The tour itself was very well set out and organised, combining being a beautiful scenic tour with being a historically informative tour. The reason we rate the tour so highly however is because of the exceptional work of the tour guide, Mark. Throughout the entire period of the tour, Mark entertained us with ongoing entertaining, informative and interesting commentary. He also managed to seamlessly organise and care for us as a group, whilst at the same time making us all feel that he was looking after each of our individual needs and wants. By the end of the day we all felt a little sad that we had to say goodbye to Mark. Thank you Mark.

A beautiful day on the Moors, Whitby, and train ride to Goathland - Mark was an excellent guide. His knowledge of landscape, history, and agricultural was amazing. He was helpful with suggestions for lunch in Whitby and dinner in York upon return. We ate at Trencher’s and the cod was the best!!! I highly recommend this trip. It is worth a lot more than price paid
