Bamboo lantern-making: highlight of our vacation! - This was an amazing experience! We loved our teacher-hosts Tomomichi san and Yoko san who taught us how to safely make beautiful bamboo lanterns that are our favorite keepsakes from our Japan trip. They truly embody “ Omotenashi” the Japanese way of welcoming guests to the fullest extent. They are the kindest people who love what they do and love their town. Highly recommend! We took an almost 3-hour JR train ride from Osaka to Kurayoshi station where we were picked up. It was worth the trip—even our 18 and 21-year olds agreed! Of course while in Tottori we also went to the awesome sand dunes and amazing sand museum. We also tried the pear jelly with ice cream (across from the sand dunes) as pears are big in Tottori. Best day trip ever!
