During this journey, we’ll experience one of the most breathtaking vistas of the Etna volcano, taking in the serene splendor of dawn.
At the Sartorius Mountains (1,720 m), we’ll set up and anticipate the sunrise. These are old craters that originated from the 1865 eruption and bear the name of Wolfgang Sartorius von Waltershausen, the pioneering scientist who chronicled the volcano’s eruptions in the 19th century. We’ll then proceed to the Grotta della Neve, a quaint lava flow passage used historically as a snow mill (a location where snow was stored for summer use). The final stop of our trip will be Case Pietracannone. From this structure, we will trek towards Monte Fontane, traversing the lava fields from the 1950-51 and 1979 eruptions. Upon reaching the mountain’s peak (1,278 m), we’ll be greeted by an expansive, ominous view of the Valle del Bove’s blackened expanse.
As we return to the starting point, we’ll bid our guests farewell with a customary Sicilian breakfast.
