- Sava River - After crossing the Sava River, we officially leave Zagreb and begin our adventure.
- Castle Mokrice - Enjoy a relaxing drive and, just before crossing the Croatian border, you’ll see Castle Mokrice, a medieval castle atop a hill. With a history dating back to the 15th century, it was home to many noble families, including the famous Auerspergs, and was featured in a Pet Shop Boys music video.
- Krsko - We’ll pass through Krško, a city crucial for energy in both Croatia and Slovenia due to its nuclear power plant. This plant, a joint venture during Yugoslavia, supplies over a quarter of Slovenia’s and 15% of Croatia’s power.
- Novo Mesto - On the drive, we’ll pass many charming villages and towns, including Novo Mesto, a picturesque river town with rich archaeological heritage.
- Dragon Bridge (Zmajski Most) - We’ll start a walking tour of Ljubljana, exploring its rich and complex history. Once a Roman city called Emona, Ljubljana is now Slovenia’s capital and largest city. You’ll learn about Napoleon’s connection to the city, its evolution, and other fascinating facts. During the tour, you’ll see the imposing Dragon Bridge, named after a legend where Jason and his Argonauts slew a dragon. You’ll also learn about the bridge’s historical evolution.
- Cathedral of St. Nicholas (Stolnica Sv. Nikolaja) - Our next stop is the magnificent Ljubljana Cathedral, officially Saint Nicholas Church. Built in the early 18th century and rebuilt several times, it evolved from a Gothic church to a Baroque building. You’ll see the mythic Slovenian doors that narrate the history of Slovenia’s people. Entrance to the Cathedral costs 2 euros.
- Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) - Jože Plečnik, Slovenia’s most famous architect, shaped Ljubljana’s identity with his urban designs between the World Wars. You’ll learn about his inspirations and visit the famous Triple Bridge, a trio of public bridges he designed.
- Preseren Square - We’ll conclude our walking tour at Prešeren Square, the heart of Ljubljana’s old town. This central square hosts major events like festivals, political gatherings, and concerts. You’ll learn about its namesake, the famous Slovenian poet France Prešeren, and his tragic love affair with Julia.
- Ljubljana - Enjoy free time to explore Ljubljana’s restaurants and cafes.
- Storzic - On our drive to Bled, we’ll pass many stunning natural and man-made sights, including the Storžić mountain, one of Slovenia’s most dangerous peaks.
- Julian Alps - Experience the vast beauty of the Julian Alps as we drive through Slovenia.
- Kranj - You’ll also see Kranj, Slovenia’s fourth-largest city, rich in medieval history and famous for its sausage.
- Radovljica - We’ll pass Radovljica, a quaint town near the Julian Alps, known for its annual chocolate festival in April.
- PLETNA BLED - A visit to Lake Bled isn’t complete without a boat ride to Slovenia’s only island. You’ll ride in traditional Pletna boats, unique to Lake Bled, to the island where you can explore, visit the Church of Mary the Queen, ring the fortune bell, and enjoy the mountain air.
- Bled Castle (Blejski Grad) - We’ll end the trip at Bled Castle, where you’ll have an hour to explore. This medieval castle, perched on a cliff overlooking Bled and Lake Bled, is Slovenia’s oldest. It offers various activities for history enthusiasts, including a winery and the famous Bled Cream cake, all with a magnificent view from the top.
