Setting Sail on the Ionian Sea

The moment I stepped aboard the Hemera Gulet, I knew I was in for a week of pure bliss. The gentle sway of the boat, the salty breeze, and the promise of adventure were all I needed to feel at home. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and this cruise around Zakynthos was the perfect way to explore the hidden gems of the Ionian Sea.

Our journey began in the charming town of Zante, where we were greeted with a warm welcome dinner. The crew, led by the ever-smiling skipper Costas, made us feel like family from the get-go. Tyson Smile Ramadan, our talented chef, whipped up a feast that set the tone for the culinary delights to come. Each meal was a celebration of fresh, local ingredients, and Tyson’s creativity in the kitchen was nothing short of inspiring.

As we set sail towards Agia Efimia, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of freedom that only the open sea can provide. The sun was shining, the water was a mesmerizing shade of blue, and the promise of new adventures lay ahead.

Discovering Hidden Treasures

Our days were filled with exploration and relaxation in equal measure. From the picturesque village of Fiskardo to the serene coves of Meganisi, each stop offered a unique glimpse into the beauty of the Greek islands. I spent my days snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, discovering vibrant marine life, and soaking up the sun on the deck.

One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to the uninhabited island of Atokos. As we anchored in a secluded cove, I couldn’t resist diving into the inviting waters. The feeling of weightlessness as I floated on the surface, surrounded by the untouched beauty of nature, was a moment of pure serenity.

Evenings were spent enjoying traditional Greek dinners at local taverns, where the hospitality was as warm as the Mediterranean sun. The camaraderie among our group grew stronger with each shared meal, and the laughter and stories flowed as freely as the wine.

A Journey to Remember

As the week drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the incredible experiences and connections made during our cruise. The Hemera Gulet, despite needing a few upgrades, had been a comfortable and welcoming home for our adventure. The crew’s dedication to providing exceptional service and their genuine warmth made all the difference.

While the deck could get a bit hot and slippery, and the fridges struggled to keep our drinks cold, these minor inconveniences were easily overshadowed by the breathtaking scenery and the joy of island-hopping. The promise of future improvements to the Gulet was encouraging, and I have no doubt that Sail in Greece will continue to enhance their offerings.

As I disembarked in Zakynthos, I felt a pang of nostalgia for the week that had passed.
