• Prison Island - Changuu Private Island - Prison Island also known as Changuu Island lies about 25 - 30 minutes by wooden motorized boat from Zanzibar Stone Town and this is where you will visit the Prison Ruins built by General Lloyd Mathews in 1893 and hence the name Prison Island. The Tour includes the visit to the Sanctuary of Aldabra’s giant tortoises brought by British Governor of Seychelles in 1919 as a gift to Sultan of Zanzibar. During the tour, you will be able to visit the sanctuary for the land giant tortoises, peacocks and the prison ruins. The Tour will also provide you with the chance to swim in the clear crystal water, sunbathe and snorkel at the nearest coral reef before you find your way back to Nakupenda for another experience.

This excursion merges three unique Zanzibar experiences, allowing you to discover them all in one day, accompanied by our experienced and accredited guide.
Our journey begins in Stone Town, where we board a powered boat for a 25-minute journey to Prison Island. There, we explore the Giant Land Tortoises’ Sanctuary, admire peacocks, inspect the historical prison remains, and relax on the beach. We then take another boat ride lasting approximately 35 minutes to Nakupenda. This location is where we spend the bulk of our time, engaging in activities such as swimming, snorkeling, photography, and savoring a seafood lunch complemented with a beach barbecue, all arranged by our crew. Finally, we circle back to Stone Town, which marks the conclusion of our tour. In this final phase, we visit various heritage sites, little markets, gift shops, and the Stone Town Market, with guidance from our skilled guide.
