Additional Information

A visit to Zanzibar - also known as the Spice Island, would be incomplete without an exciting spice tour. Discover the island’s historical reputation as a primary producer of spices including clove, nutmeg, cardamon, ginger, lemon grass, vanilla, jackfruit, cinnamon, and others, in the 19th century. Experience the fragrant charm of a spice farm where such spices are obtainable as powder for purchase and home use. Expect the tour to last around 3 hours and feel encouraged to ask questions to deepen your understanding of spices.

The uniqueness of this tour lies in its affordability that without a doubt, exceeds the value of the service delivered. We recommend travelers to take advantage of Abdi’s smart tour guide services for a fulfilling holiday experience.

In addition to the spice tour, I also coordinate additional activities available in Zanzibar. Feel comfortable to inquire about other activities and I will facilitate them at a reasonable cost.

Spice up your vacation! - I found this tour to be very interesting. The guide would crumble leaves and have you guess what spice you'd be learning about. I liked that interaction. I expected a field with rows of spices but it's not like that. I found that interesting! The guides helper made me a pretty purse, ring, necklace, and crown of palms and flowers; loved it! The guy climbing the coconut tree and then us all drinking from our individual coconut was just ok. There was the opportunity to buy spices and fruits to eat. Monkeys were playing in the forest. They were cute. Overall a good tour!

JAMBO SPICE FARM WAS LOVELY! - ABDI picked 12 of us up from our Hotel in Nungwi, and transported us to the JAMBO Spice Farm where we started the afternoon with a delicious LUNCH! They served many traditional dishes such as Rice with Coconut and Cardamom, Fried Fish, Green Banana Stew, a Tomato and Coconut sauce and a luvly Red onion relish. We dined well! Next, they let us taste some delectable local fruit, such as Watermelon, Red Bananas, and what I would describe as Pomelo (similar to a pink grapefruit, with a green skin). Then our guide walked us all over the Farm Picking, Plucking and Pointing out Flowers, Pods and Seeds of the many fragrant familiar and unfamiliar spices. Some of the highlights included Vanilla, Black and Red Pepper, Nutmeg, Huge Durian and Ginger Root. They made us the customary tropical leaf crowns and bracelets for the ladies. We even got to see ‘Mr. Butterfly’ climb to the top of a towering coconut palm. My only complaint would be the Spice Market, which had a lovely selection of Afro-Indian spices, but it was poorly lit, and wayyy overpriced compared to the larger pouches of spices we saw later in Stone Town. WHAT A LOVELY EXCURSION!
