Amazing trip - I did this trip with my 16-year-old daughter. We are from Brazil. Hassan and his brother saved our trip. They were respectful and patient. We did some tours indicated by them and enjoy a lot. We went to the spice farm, place with turtles and the Stone Town. He knows a lot about the locals, showed respect for all cultures and brought a lot of information about the local reality. It put our experience first. I highly recommend it. I am very grateful for his work.

A great walking tour of Stonetown - I had a great walking tour of Stonetown with my amazing guide Ahmad. Communication was good prior to meeting up, and Ahmad was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable and happily answered any of my questions. The walking tour included visiting all the key cultural points of interest in Stonetown, and I learnt a lot about each historic site, as well as Zanzibar’s interesting history from Ahmad, who has a very impressive knowledge. I highly rate and recommend this walking tour.

Memorable Birthday - Hassan was great ! I used his services for several tours in addition to the Stone Town walking tour. He knows pretty much the whole of Zanzibar and was able to facilitate my travel in every aspect; from needing a ride to Nungwi and the airport and finding me a spot on the Dhow Boat Ride. The walking tour was a highlight! It did not feel rushed, i LEARNED plenty on the history and landmarks of the town. He made my birthday trip memorable and a solo traveler, i felt safe with him.

Walking tour of Stone Town - A comprehensive and thoroughly enjoyable walking tour of stone town. Our guide, Hassan was friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. Highlights included: the old fort, historic streets, local food market, slave trade exhibition, and waterfront. We learned much about the history and culture of this beautiful island. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Zanzibar for the first time.

Very interesting visit, Hassan knows the place inside and out - We're very happy we booked this tour with Hassan instead of just wandering in Stone Town. Hassan knows this place better than anyone and will show you gorgeous buildings, telling you their stories, show you hidden places, share the island's history, which is so rich. We finished at the Slave Market and History of Slavery Museum, where I wished we had stayed a bit longer to have the time to read more. It is a very moving place that is definitely worth it. So don't hesitate to contact Hassan, he will organise a great visit of Stone Town for you!

Fine - Our guide was low energy that day it seems. This is the second time my husband and I did the tour and we found it fine yet less informative than the last one.

Not worth it - superficial and unwelcoming - Hasan seemed very tired, so maybe we just had him on an off day. But given the reviews and also the price, we were expecting a much different experience. With the different stops it was more of a manuscript that the guide had memorized, and seemed bothered or a bit annoyed or disturbed when we asked follow up questions. He struggled to remember the rehearsed stories, which surprised us as he must have done this tour hundreds of times based on the previous reviews. It also has the impression that the historical knowledge was not very comprehensive and similar to just knowing what you could read on a poster next to a given sight. When we ask questions about the history, that relates to the stories he told, he had very very scarced knowledge, about what we would expect were rather basic historical knowledge (e.g when did Zanzibar get independence, and what happened at that time and so on). When we asked question on topics included in the tour but for later stops, rather than answering them when we asked, we were told it would come later, and that we would have to wait (maybe an attempt to make it engaging, but I would have hoped he would get a sense of what sort of costumers we were, rather than sticking to one specific way of guiding) - so not much to gain for having a personal tour, when we could barely go off script. At first we really tried to keep the good mood, and still be very positive and super friendly in how we engaged, but at some point I stopped pretending that I was not disappointed, while still being polite but that was clear that this was also bothering him. One thing is that for this price and the sale pitch on trip advisor, we were very disappointed by how superficial and scripted the tour was, the other aspect is just that he seemed very unwelcoming with the questions and as if it was asking too much, and that it was a bit annoying that we came with just a bit of knowledge and understanding of the culture and history before hand, and also tried to relate it to the history of mainland Tanzania. I wish we had saved the 105$ and just followed the lonely planet’s guide and read op on it a bit ourselves, cuz we would have gotten the same level of guidance and information.
